Woman’s full-length, A-line, quilted, colourful robe with long tapered sleeves; open at centre front from neck to hem with no closures; right and left centre fronts slightly overlap at hem; made of red, yellow, green and purple warp-ikat textile, silk warp, cotton weft. Gathers at the underarm are embellished with decorative stitches worked with orange thread. All edges are faced on the inside with bias strips of multi-coloured cotton textile. Lined with machine printed cotton textile with red, green and brown floral motifs on an off-white background. Back neck edge bound with dark red twill tape. Light layer of cotton batting between the outer textile and the lining.

Brooch3204/7

Miniature totem pole brooch. A bear sits at bottom in an upright pose with knees bent, front legs raised so paws come together in front of chin. Body is red-brown. Face shows large green and black eyes, and a heavy brow, with an open mouth in red. On the bear’s head perches a large bird with wings fully spread, feathers painted in formline style on the front. Wedge shaped head has a large curved beak, and a ridge sits on top of head. Eyes are also green and black. Back of pole is undecorated but for a black line along top of wings. A metal stick pin is glued to back.

Unpainted, carved bird attached to thick rectangular base. Bird is in a sitting position, clawed feet to front, wings at sides, large head with a prominent curved beak and flat top pitched slightly forward. Eyes are blank circles. Wings have a suggestion of feathers and openwork patterning that continues onto back where wings end in vertical lines. "Neel" is carved into back at bottom. A pair with 3204/5.

Model Totem Pole3216/1 a-b

Small carved model pole. Partly painted. Figures are: thunderbird at top, with an animal face painted on its body, standing on a crouching bear (lower feet not shown). Pole is nailed onto the base from below with one nail. The wings are one separate piece of wood (part b) nailed onto the pole at the back with a single nail. The back is unpainted and has a stamp with the following: "Made in Canada by Ellen Neel & the Totem Carvers - Kwakiutl Indians".

Lotting for Seahawk Auction3180/1

Large format colour photograph of a scene showing three people processing a large collection of First Nations objects into lots, in preparation for an auction. The objects (mainly from the Northwest Coast, some from other First Nations groups) surround the table where the people are working on all sides. Many objects are on the floor, others are on shelves and some are on the table. The two men sit behind a long table, one with a laptop. A woman stands at the right of one man, also behind the table. Cast gold ring. Large beaver face at centre, with a carved leg at each side of the face. Beaver's large teeth extend to lower rounded chin edge; the tops of its ears extend along the upper, flatter edge. There's a notch in the upper edge, above the centre of the face. Slightly stippled surface. Front of ring is quite wide; the band narrows substantially toward the back. (No visible artist inscription.)

Salish Vision3113/6

Large, round, wall panel carving in the style of a spindle whorl. The motif at the lower centre is a frog, whose back legs are composed of salmon heads, while the frog’s front legs are feathers from a pair of thunderbirds. Circles of oxidized copper make up the eyes of the creatures. The background, between the animals, is painted grey.

Salmon Homecoming3113/23

Silkscreen print on paper. Image shows four salmon, representing the four year lifecycle of the fish. They are arranged in a pinwheel pattern, heads to the centre of the picture, bodies curving toward edges, and are coloured red-pink, green and yellow, with large round eyes and slightly beaked snouts. The three females have cirlcular salmon egg motifs contained within their stomachs, while the male has a repeating crescent pattern representing gills. The fish swim on a green and blue background.
