Wolf HeaddressNb11.279

Wolf headdress is natural in colour with a long blunt red snout that curves upward showing carved white teeth. The white oval eye with a rounded slit in relief is enclosed in a black oval outline. Above each eye is a black band. The ears are red, B-like in shape and attached to the headdress with adhesive. The fringe on the top of the mask is made of black and white tufts of fibre.

Short, cylindrical basket (a) with a flat, fitted lid (b). Sides of basket are decorated with four pairs of three-man canoes in alternating red and black; lid features a circular, geometric design in black, purple and yellow. The base consists of plaiting with some coarse woven twining. The sides have wrapped twined weaving. Lid is held in place by a cedar flange attached around the upper rim of the basket.

Stone bowl or vessel. Sculpture of a human head and neck, with a small basin-like bowl carved at the back of the head. The face has a mask-like appearance with a pronounced chin and a well-defined edge along the sides and top. Circular eyes, prominent brows and nose, and small slit-shaped mouth. Pitted surface.

Spear ThrowerA7021

Intricately carved wooden spear thrower, or atlatl, with two finger holes at proximal end. A portion of the distal end is missing. The dorsal surface is incised with lines that function as a spear groove. Central form is a feather-crested lightning snake on a human figure, on the ventral surface as a weight. The figures have white inlaid eyes. The eye material appears to be bone, covered with a resin coating? The carved figure culminates in an unusual bifurcated tail. Inlaid eye is missing from right side of the human face.

Miniature, cylindrical woven basket (a) with a flat, fitted lid (b); cedar bark warps and swamp grass wefts. Base has plaited origin and twisted twined work (over several warp strands). Upper and lower rim of basket have one row of red wefts. Center of lid has a red sunburst design.
