Gambling Game SticksA7104 a-bbbb

Seventy-nine wooden gambling sticks (parts b-bbbb) in a deer hide bag (part a). The sticks are cylindrical in shape and are of uniform size; each has red and/or black line markings in centre. A few have an old white adhesive tag attached. Nine pieces are inlaid with abalone shells of different designs; one is missing its inlay. The inside of the bag has remnants of an old red and black Northwest Coast design. The strap of the bag has a carved bone(?) window-shaped ornament attached.

Drum3558/6 a-b

Drum made from stretched hide over a wooden frame with a painted design on the front; part b is a drumstick. The front of the round drum has a painted seal in profile, in black, red and grey, with several vertical turquoise blue designs on both sides of the seal. The eye of the seal is an abalone circle, adhered in place. The outer edge of the drum has a thick black line painted all the way around; the background is natural skin. The hide is tied all around the back edge with sinew cords that join at the centre, wrapped with hide strips for the handle. Signed inside David Mungo Know Seal 92. The drumstick is wood; the head consists of fuzzy sheep skin secured over the end, with a beige leather thong wrapped around the handle, with a long leather fringe hanging from it.

Speaker's Staff3571/1

Tall wooden talking stick, unpainted. The top has a long somewhat pointed tip, below which is a carved shark(?) face, with oval abalone inlays in the eyes, and 12 triangular inlays arranged in a row in the mouth, for teeth. Below the face wing-like(?) features are carved into the surface; below is a row of curved horizontal lines, then 11 circumference lines, creating 10 round segments. The piece ends in a wedge-shaped tail with carved elements on both sides. On the back is a small rectangular metal plaque with the dedication. Near the bottom are the intials D.R. in black marker.

Doll3502/1 a-b

Female doll in a standing position, made of cloth (part a). Facial features are embroidered with black and red thread. Two red “V” shapes decorate each cheek. Woman has long braided black hair, secured with red ties. Doll has a separate red cloth head ring (part b). The top edges are trimmed with a white fuzzy material, imitating fur, with a large abalone decoration on front. The doll wears a black button blanket with a wide red border along the top, left and right edges. Triangle and diamond designs along band, done in white buttons. Inner edge of border outlined with identical buttons. Central design on blanket of a thunderbird, done in red. Copper depicted on chest of bird, formline design elements across rest of body; done in white, red, blue, yellow, green and black beads. Underneath, she is wearing a striped dress with a lace collar, lace trimmed pants, and a black and red dance apron. Central design of a copper with two red bands underneath. Zigzag pattern, done in light blue beads, overtop the bands. Hanging from the points of the zigzags are gold bells. She is wearing black shoes.
