Hand Puppet3350/3

Baby puppet. Hand puppet of the Baby character, from a Punch and Judy puppet set. Head, hands and central body carved from wood. Visible wood components- head and hands- painted beige. Character has protruding ears, round cheeks and long button nose. Cheeks are rosy. Mouth is open and painted pink. Eyes are light blue circles with white dots in them. Baby has short red-orange strands of yarn for hair. Character is wearing a red polka-dotted dress and white bib, with lace-like trim. Dress has two rows of wavy blue trim along the bottom edge. Plain wood cylinder, that head is attached to, inside fabric body with rod attached to bottom. Metal ring along bottom edge of body opening. Operated by holding the rod inside of the puppet’s body.

Policeman puppet. Hand puppet of the Policeman character, from a Punch and Judy puppet set. Head and hands carved from wood. Components painted beige. Character has large rounded nose and cheeks. Nose, cheeks and chin are rosy. Lips are light pink and eyes are light blue. Small red dots in the corners of the eyes. Character has black eyebrows and a dark brown mustache. Dark brown lines on face highlight nostrils, mouth, chin, ears, eyelids and under eye area. The Policeman has a ring of black, fuzzy hair glued around his head and is wearing a dark blue police helmet. Helmet has a silver badge on the front and a silver spike on top. Character is wearing a silver-buttoned, dark blue uniform jacket, with two chest pockets. Rest of fabric body is a matching dark blue. Metal ring along bottom edge of body opening. Operated by inserting hand inside the body of the puppet to control the head and hands.

Puppet Prop3350/12

Showtime clock prop, from a Punch and Judy puppet set. Thin piece of painted wood screwed into plain wooden block at base. Painted wood depicts a yellow mantel clock. Clock has hourglass shape, with a double curve on top. Shape highlighted with wavy and curled lines along edges, painted in light orange and dark red. Has white clock face with two, adjustable metal hands in its centre. Above, in capital letters, “Next Show” is painted in dark red with black shadows outlining the words. Operated by manually moving the clock hands.

Devil puppet. Hand puppet of the Devil character, from a Punch and Judy puppet set. Head and hands carved from wood. Components painted dark red. Character has protruding chin, hooked nose and pointed ears. Two tall, angled horns on forehead. Has black goatee. Eyes are circlular, and painted yellow with small, black pupils. Black lines on face highlight nostrils, chin, ears, furrowed brow and cheek bones. Frowning mouth is painted black. Has large slanted eyebrows. Fingers have pointed ends. Character is wearing a separate black, satin cape with a red interior (part b). Cape has high, ruffled collar. Wearing a silver-gold vest with black lines, giving it a scaled appearance. Vest only on front side of puppet and is overtop a red, velvet-like robe. Above vest, attached to robe, is a black, lace-like ascot tie. Velvet-like robe has braided trim around the bottom edge. Braid made from small gold, emerald green and dark purple plastic ribbons. Metal ring along bottom edge of body opening. Operated by inserting hand inside the body of the puppet to control the head and hands.

Punch puppet. Hand puppet of the Punch character (part a) and his slapstick (part b), from a Punch and Judy puppet set. Head, hands and legs carved from wood. Head and hands painted beige. Character has protruding chin and long, hooked nose. Nose, cheeks and chin are rosy. Lips are red and eyes light blue. Small red dots in the corners of the eyes. Character is wearing blue eye shadow and has large black eyebrows. Dark brown lines on face to highlight nostrils, mouth, chin, furrowed brow, ears and wrinkles around eyes. Punch has white fuzzy hair, glued to his head, and is wearing a red, yellow and gold jester’s hat. Character is wearing a red tunic with a large, yellow ruffled collar and a frilled hemline. Collar has a line of dark red trim. Cuffs have a line of wavy yellow trim. Bottom edge of tunic has two rows of wavy gold trim. Two lines down front of tunic, with an oval in between them. Lines and oval made up of yellow and orange fringe decoration. Stuffed, oval-like shapes attached to the back and belly of Punch. Shapes are same colour as tunic. Tunic connects to a black fabric body for the puppet. Hanging in front of the black fabric are two wooden legs. Legs are painted bright yellow. Has short-heeled, red shoes with yellow and red ruffles on them. Metal ring along bottom edge of body opening. Operated by inserting hand inside the black fabric body to control the head and hands. The slap stick is made of two and a half grey-brown, thin slats of wood.

Eagle Paddle3309/9

Paddle carved from a single piece of wood. The burgundy shaft is split above the throat, forming a V-shape. The grip is painted solid black, and has a small piece of black leather tied to both sides of the shaft. The blade is painted light yellow-brown with black feather-like lines over, and the outline of an eagle's profile with white eye.

Woman with Labret3260/111

Portrait mask. Mask is painted blue with large black eyebrows and black eye outlines. The eyes are carved out as circles; the nostrils are painted red; the mouth is slightly open and carved through with a rectangular opening, the lips are painted red. Below the lower lip is an inlay of abalone as the labret. On the back are four holes with a hide strap attached at each side. Artist’s inscription on back: RD 75.

Portrait mask with short white feathers along the top edge, along with four longer dark feathers. The face has large black eyebrows, black eye outlines, carved out eyeholes, and red nostrils. The mouth is slightly open, with red lips and carved teeth. There are four holes on each side on the back for hanging, with a hide thong. Artist inscription on back.

Yellow cedar sculpture depicting a female with two cubs on top and a bear at the bottom. There are fourteen operculum shell teeth set into the bear. There is a face carved on the underside of the sculpture. The back is hollow. Inscription on back, artist name, date, title.
