Soft wood carving of a male figure (part a). Body and face are highly stylized and very squat. The oval eyes are bulging, the nose is relatively flat with wide nostrils, and the mouth is horizontally long. There are three curved diagonal grooved marks on each cheek, and on each side of the chest. Figure is dressed in a kilt-like garment, and is wearing a cap or a helmet with studs or knobs protruding. Arms are glued at an angle, poised in such a way so that they are holding a removable flute-like instrument (part b) which tapers to a point, and is two-stepped at the other end.

Number '736' stamped on back of log section.

Collapsible fan with 18 inner ribs made of ivory and two ivory ribs on the outside. The outermost ribs are carved with a floral design. One side is covered in white silk, which has been stiffened and has a light bown paper edge. The silk is painted with a design of cranes flying over a marsh, in grey, white, red, yellow and blue/green. The ends of the ribs are fastened with a u-shaped brass loop to which is knotted a knotted grey silk cord ending in a tassel.

Wearing a rounded black hat with round projections at lower back, an ankle-length robe of black silk gauze over red fabric, and a belt under the arms of paper painted red, black, and yellow, over a square multi-coloured paper panel. Boots are made of black paper. Two pieces of white flannel hemmed with light red-pink silk are glued to the paper backing.
