Colourful silk textiles compiled in a scrap book. Textiles are glued to a page and are labeled in Japanese. Scrap book is made of black cardboard and has silver metal corner edges. The inscription "Japanese Textiles" in handwritten on the cover with black marker. On the back cover of the scrapbook written in gold lettering is the inscription: "Scrap Book."

Cantonese Opera HatN1.790

The folded hat is purple and square with two ties. The hat is folded inwards once on the sides. There is a black edging around the bottom of the hat. The inside of the hat is ecru lining, stiffened with cardboard. Two ecru ties are attached.

Costume ChestN1.866 a

Cantonese Opera costume chest with curved lid and false bottom. False bottom 3 1/8 in. deep, has 1 1/4 in. holes, 8 1/2 in. from either end, front and back, for insertion of carrying poles. Curved lid is covered with leather (dark brown) secured by hand wrought iron nails. Chest is painted red with large circular floral motif in centre front with a green vertical line of characters on either side. Above center is Arabic numeral "2", which also appears at upper left hand corner. Above the central numeral is printed "Made in" (first line) and "Kum Lon Chang Co. Chong Yuen Fong Street, Canton". Pair of iron rings on either side of central numeral "2". Iron handles mounted vertically. Rings and vertical handles on back of chest also. Leather and wrought iron braces on corners. A wrought iron handle mounted horizontally on each end of chest. Discoloured paper label hanging from handle on right side, "Admiral Line".

Cantonese Opera Transforming RobeN1.715

Reversible transformation robe (fan gongzhuang) with a stand-up collar, wide sleeves, side slits and a centre opening with brass frog fasteners. On surface A, the upper front, back and sleeves have phoenix, bat, cash, narcissus, chrysanthemums and peony motifs in silver, pink, green and orange on a purple ground. The sleeve border has chrysanthemum motif in silver on a black ground. Below the waist the robe divides into overlapping multicoloured strips with canopy, mountain, cloud, chrysanthemum and narcissus motifs in silver. There are green glass eyes and circular mirrors on the front, back and sleeves. On surface B, the front, back and sleeves have bird, chrysanthemum, leaf, tree and butterfly motifs in silver, cream and green on a blue ground. The collar, sleeve and border bands have a chrysanthemum motif in cream and silver on a blue ground. There are circular mirrors and tin reflectors. The inside lining is natural-coloured linen.
