Dog Team Carving3528/10 a-f

Carvings of a man with a sled and 5 dogs, all in grey stone. The man (part a) is carved in a seated position, holding a hide whip that is attached to a bone(?) handle, inserted into his hand. The stone sled (part b) is flat with two runners and five slats on top. There are five carved stone dogs (parts c-f). Each dog has a hide(?) harness attached (glued?) to the stone, and each harness has a thin black string tied to it with a loop at the end. Two of the dogs are tied together with the string. Syllabics on man's foot and bottom of sled.

Walrus Carving3528/1 a-d

Three stone carvings representing a dancing walrus family, mother (part b), father (part c) and child (part d), pegged on top of a carved stone boot (part a). All pieces are in a green-grey stone; the boot and female in a lighter green, the male and child in a darker green, all with dark spots. Each walrus has plastic(?) inlay creating black and white eyes, and bone(?) tusks and bottom pegs adhered in place. There are three evenly spaced holes drilled in the top of the kamik-style carved boot. Artist syllabics are inscribed on the base of the boot.

Beluga Figure3528/19

White (beluga) whale attached to an antler base. Carved whale of tusk, with pectoral fins glued in place. Appears to have a wooden peg attached firmly to the flat antler base. Green ink has been added to the round incised eyes and the ]-shaped blowhole on top. The small tail appears to have been broken and reattached. Artist inscription on base in green marker.

Doll3502/4

Female doll, in standing position on wooden base, made of corn husks. Face is featureless. She has long, braided black hair secured with red ties. Braided leather band knotted around head, with a feather tucked in the back. She is wearing a layered floral dress with black pants underneath. Edges of layers and bottoms of pants are decorated with multi-coloured beads. Beads stitched on in a zigzag pattern. Dress is belted at waist with a long leather tie. She is holding a large pestle in both hands, inserted into a cylindrical, bark covered mortar. Artist name written on base.

Legs and tail nailed to body. Ears are inset and secured with glue. Nostrils and mouth are incised, eyes are painted on. All incisions are painted black. Ends of legs are painted black, imitating hooves. Eyes and inner ears are naturally coloured. Incised lines decorate inner ears. Black “V”-shaped designs painted along back of neck, imitating a mane(?). Body and legs are decorated with black three-leaf clovers. Dashes painted across figure, throughout clover motifs, and lines are painted along length of tail. Plastic bumpers attached to bottoms of legs. Manufacturer's mark on base.

Long black stripe painted down neck of animal, with angled protrusions on either side, imitating forelocks(?). Figure is decorated with black dashes.
