String Puppet3352/7

Mamulengo string puppet (marionette) of a man riding a 'burrinha' or ox characters. Heads, hands and feet are carved from wood and painted. The man has orange-pink skin, painted black hair, straight mouth with red lips, and large oval black eyes. He wears a long-sleeved yellow with blue floral shirt, and yellow with multicoloured heart pattern pants. The black and white ox has long black leather ears, and a curly black tail. A red with multicoloured floral pattern skirt extends down where the animal's body should be. The fabric is adhered(?) to the hands and head, and wrapped with shiny red ribbon at the wrists and neck, and across the ox's nose. The man is attached by several black strings to a wooden control bar composed of a single long piece of wood with one cross-bar.

Drum3383/10

Wood drum with reptile skin. The drum tapers in from the top, and then flares out to a wide base. The wood is plain on the upper portion, and carved on the base and then wrapped with three horizontal bands of animal skin. The skin is secured by adhesive. There are four raised additions in the centre of the drum skin, and a mark where a fifth was once attached.

The puppet depicts an uneven blue and red building with a blue, red and orange door with a brown overhang above and a lantern hanging. Next to the house is a pointy green plant. Depicts a square container with four arms with scalloped decoration, one rising out of each corner, that connect at the centre above. There appears to be a hook at the centre. Small shadow puppet of two characters, a wrestler named Pehlivan, and a monster named Canavar. Made of semi-transparent animal skin and a watery paint or dye, soaked into the skin. The wrestler wears long dark green pants with a red belt, and is shirtless. He is bald with a large moustache. The large orange cat-like monster is facing the wrestler with its tail curled up over its back, and the characters are engaged in battle. They stand on a small section of landscape with green and brown leaves. The maker's name is written along the hind leg of the monster.
