Armband3103/24

Band of bent antler, tied together at ends with hide strip. Engraved with repeating pattern of circles, with a dot in the middle, down the centre and straight and diagonal lines carved along the edges. Drilled holes top four of the pairs of lines on one side of the band. Two lines around the band separate the three patterns.

Plaque with three birds attached to front. A thin, flat piece of dark stone is smoothed into an irregular shape. It holds three relief carvings of birds, attached by adhesive and posts placed in bored holes. The birds are carved with textured wings tucked onto their backs, long necks and small heads. The first sits with feet protruding to the front, the second with no feet showing, and the third stands tall.

Multi-component whale bone carving. A large, flat slab of bone (part a) serves as the base of the sculpture, with several small holes bored into the top. The holes hold short, fine, bone or wood pegs (parts f to k) which serve as the legs of four small carved birds (parts b to e) that stand atop the base. All the birds hold their wings on their backs, their eyes are small bored holes painted black or filled with a black substance, and one has an open beak.

Bone awl. The bone itself is the partial ulna of a goat or mule deer. The distal end has been sharpened to a point, while the proximal mass has a small, straight cut in one side.
