Carved and Inlayed Spiral Pipe Stem50.67.93

(center in photograph)This ash wood pipe has the length carved in a spiral. Decorations along this are made with lead inlays; a fish appears inside one of the spiral curves, and the flat section on the end has four thunderbirds inlaid on one side and two buffalo heads and two animals (bears?) on the other side. The spiral section is further decorated with burn marks from a searing tool.

Bobbin Threader1350/1 a-f

Brown wooden bobbin winder or threader resembles a small tabletop spinning wheel. The wheel, which is mounted on the right hand side of an oblong box, is connected with twine (original missing) to a fitting mounted on the left hand side of the box; small handle mounted on the outside rim of the wheel. An arm with a detachable rotary device is attached on the left hand side and can be folded out of the way when not in use. There is a small storage drawer in the box.
