A shadow puppet of a male (sheng or lead male type, Emperor character) (parts a-b) with a profile face in outline. Wearing clothing that is decorated in red, yellow, blue, and black with an animal face on the chest, and at the hips, and dragons at the top of the legs, and at the wrists, and floral print on the shoulders, and on the bottom of the legs. Wire is coiled around the neck. There is an elaborate red and black headdress (part c) of a tailed animal with a fireball-like appendage. Handles are made of bamboo grass. Joined in the shoulder, elbow, waist, hips, hands, and fingers with rivets.

Ten metal arrows with bamboo grass shafts. Sharp barbed heads with hollow shafts. Each has three feathers intricately bound by string. All have straight angled barbs at either sides of the bottom of the arrow, except for one (part g) that has curved barbs. Six have dark feathers (parts a, c, f-i). Three have white feathers (b, e, and j) with one having shorter feathers (part e). One has brown feathers (part d).

BasketB756 a-b

Basket (a) that has a wide, open weaving technique of horizontal plant leaves and vertical bamboo on the sides, a smaller weave of only bamboo at the bottom, and a very tight weave of bamboo strips at the top. An insert (b) of woven bamboo sits inside the bottom of the basket. There are two plant fibre tassels attached to the sides of the basket, and four that hang from the bottom of the basket. A design of vertical lines has been burnt into the border as well as the top row of the wide open weaving section. A monkey skull has been affixed to one side of the basket with its nose facing the bottom of the basket, and it has been painted white underneath the eye sockets. There are two loops on the reverse side, and one on the inside of the basket, likely for attaching straps.

Stringed Musical Instrument2668/1

Cantonese opera instrument. Two-stringed instrument (banhu) or bamboo fiddle (zhutiqin), with a bow attached. There are two gourd-like tuning pegs at one end, and two strings stretched over the wooden neck, attached to a bamboo soundbox. The bow is strung with black hair.

A plain handle which tapers to a mushroom-shaped finial, below which there are two horizontal rings carved at the top under the finial. Twelve long teeth fan outward radially. Twisted fibre cord is coiled around the middle.
