Basketry HatA1465

Basketry hat with primarily plain twined weave with some diagonal twined sections on the brim. Above the crown of the hat are a series of four cylindrical protrusions of plain twined weave around the sides of each, and twined and wicker weave on the underside of each with a hole in the topmost protrusion. Two bands of black on the brim and on the cylindrical protrusion below the topmost protrusion.

Rectangular, tan-coloured basket that is rectangular in cross section and that flares upward and outward. Simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with watch-spring base construction and an overcast rim. Decorated with partial imbrication in a continuous design made up of three non-distinct horizontal rows which cover the top two-thirds of the design field. The lower third is filled with bands of vertical check figures in red and white, and black and white.

Tan basket of simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with parallel slat base construction and a foot of two coiled rows. Decorated with partial imbrication that consists of a vertical zigzag design (three on each of the sides and one on each of the ends) in red/white/black/white/red. Foot is partially beaded in red cherry bark.
