Shopping Basket1653/1

Rectangular baskets with vertical sides. Two handles go across shorter dimension; handles are formed from stiff rope with cedar bark coiled around it from end to end. Outer surfaces are decorated with four bands of lighter bark and a central diamond pattern in darker bark on each side.

Rectangular basket with vertical sides; two long sides have domed handles as part of the walls. Base is solid and sides are open work with coiled solid bands alternating with bands of open zigzags; Handle are open work and have two arches with zigzags in between them. Solid bands of walls have woven checkerboard decorations at regular intervals.

Cedar bark stitching and/or the accompanying holes at top and bottom ends of the board. Large area of rotted wood in the plank's centre. Uniform chisel marks and longitudinal cracks cover the underside.

An oval box (part a) and lid (part b) covered in geometric quillwork. On top of the lid there is a black diamond-shaped pattern outlined with blue. The central diamond has orange vertical and horizontal lines in the centre. The outer partial diamonds have white diagonal lines in a feather-shape. The background is white with orange triangles and blue lines. Around the sides of the lid is an alternating pattern of white diamond-vertical line-dot-vertical line-diamond. Along the sides of the container are zigzag lines starting with white and orange at the top all the way down to blue, black, white, red, and blue and orange on the bottom.

Mask with protruding cylindrical eyes that are moveable. The mask is painted with heavy black eyebrows, red nostrils and lips, a black moustache, and the cheeks are emphasized with red painted designs. The remainder of the face is painted white. Cedar bark fringe extends down back past the bottom of the mask.

Two rectangular notches are vertically carved on the bottom and the top end of the plank near the other edge of the plank.
