Votive BowlNi27 a-f

Hollowed gourd bowl covered on exterior with beeswax and inlaid with glass beads in a design consisting of white deer with cross above centre of body, red and black undulating line at centre of body, outlined in black. Two red and yellow figures both with arms outstretched, one is seated on a white and black chair the other is standing. Two u-shaped bases have double crosses above with blue ground, and yellow rim. Black divided circle on base has green and white triangular shaped wedges. Bowl contains three sticks inserted into beeswax. Two sticks are painted in blue and red bands, notched at upper end. Centre stick wrapped in red, blue, and pink yarn. Diminutive representations attached to each stick with braided or wrapped yarn, stick on left has a guitar, two bows, god's eye, paper sandal. Centre stick has drum, bow, arrow, shield, and feathers. Stick on right has violin, bow, god's eye and a paper sandal.

Shaman BasketNi30 a-h

Basket (a) is a rounded rectangle, and has a lid (b) which fits completely over base. Basket contains five wooden arrows. Arrows: (part c) five feathers attached to top, shaft wrapped in bands of yellow and green yarn, two feathers near top attached with blue yarn, all feathers hang freely; (part d) six feathers attached to top, light blue yarn wrapped around shaft; (part e) five feathers at top, orange yarn wrapped around upper shaft attaches a rattlesnake tail and a bird claw, one feather attached with red yarn, back shield of thin sticks is woven together with green, pink and blue yarn, also has a round mirror with a plastic frame; (part f) down-like feathers attached to top, green, purple and pink yarn wrapped around shaft in bands, two feathers attached with red yarn; (part g) four feathers attached to top, bands of blue, white and yellow yarn around shaft, gourd medallion with deer(?) shaped in wax has various coloured seed beads applied; (part h) brown feathers attached to top, orange yarn wrapped along upper shaft, two feathers attached with blue yarn.

Flat bottomed canoe slopes upward at each end. Carved out interior has seat at one end. Decorations formed by pressing glass beads into beeswax. White and orange around rim of carved out interior. White, blue, and yellow cross at one end. The interior has a yellow, orange, white, and blue human figure at end opposite seat. Four animal figures at bottom (dog, coiled snake, insect, and lizard?).

Necklace composed of a disc-shaped pendant on a string of lozenge-shaped beads alternating with circles of twined grass with two spherical beads next to the pendant. The pendant is formed from grass stuck into beeswax with protruding twined strands at the centre and two bands of neatly twined strands.

Yarn Painting3573/13

Yarn painting representing the pilgrimage of the Peyoteros. Square wood board has coloured yarn pressed into beeswax on one side to create an image. This painting represents the pilgrimage of the Peyoteros. Two separate groups of people that are travelling towards the centre of the scene, and in the middle are the chiefs. In their path are flowers. Above them, there is a blue gourd with a white candle, blue corn, blue and green deer head with a white candle on its head, brown and blue arrow, and portal design. Above, to the right, is a figure wearing a large headdress, bules, and a knapsack. Left of the sun is an eagle, carrying lengths of various-coloured material in its mouth. Below the bird is a seated figure next to a fire. Upper left, behind the singer, is an arrow, snake, and a bow. There is a house with an arrow and deer antlers outside, and inside are two bowls with a little deer. There is a thorn on the side of the house. In the five peyotes in the middle they have arrows on each side, and to the left there is a woman with her gourd and candle. Along the bottom, there are four spiders, snakes, people and cornfields. Along the right side, there is a house with two people to the left, and a woman on the right, behind whom is a dog.
