Long, eighteen-strand beaded necklace. Alternating bands of spherical blue and red beads with elongated tube-like carved bone beads; bands are separated by strips of hide. Upper portion of necklace consists of black spherical beads split into two sections, creating a hole for the head; three strands of carved bone and white and black beads dangle from the back of the necklace, tied together with strips of cloth and hide.

Tattooing EquipmentC1758 a-c

A three piece set of tattooing equipment. The first piece (part a) is a rounded bowl end part of a coconut nutshell that is holding some black substance. The second piece (part b) is a flat light brown wood stick with a hollow cylindrical bone piece at the other end that is cut away at diagonally with four teeth at the longer end. The third piece (part c) is a long flat brown wood stick.

Basket (a) that has a wide, open weaving technique of horizontal plant leaves and vertical bamboo on the sides, a smaller weave of only bamboo at the bottom, and a very tight weave of bamboo strips at the top. An insert (b) of woven bamboo sits inside the bottom of the basket. There are two plant fibre tassels attached to the sides of the basket, and four that hang from the bottom of the basket. A design of vertical lines has been burnt into the border as well as the top row of the wide open weaving section. A monkey skull has been affixed to one side of the basket with its nose facing the bottom of the basket, and it has been painted white underneath the eye sockets. There are two loops on the reverse side, and one on the inside of the basket, likely for attaching straps.

A circular clay face with short dark brown feathers on top and a bone point below that is convex on the front side while concave on the back side. The cowrie shell eyes are painted red and are outlined with a black line extending upward toward its respective temple, which in turn, is outlined with white and red. There is a long black line running down along the middle of the face to the end of the nose. The top of the forehead is decorated with small cowrie shells. The lips are pinched to pout out and the mouth area is white.

Man's brown leather belt, trimmed with white painted grommets and brown metal studs; fastened with a narrow leather strip and metal buckle. Two leather loops on bottom edge for attaching tools. Two tools attached: a knife (18.3 cm) with metal blade, wood and bone handle, leather and bone sheath; ovoid leather pouch (approximately 33 cm long), trimmed with yellow and red wool fabric, yellow and green rickrack and light yellow-brown reindeer fur. Small square of plastic tape (reflective tape?) glued on at centre back; evidence that two other squares of tape had been attached but have fallen off.
