Whirligig top. Small rounded cone with flat bottom. Hole drilled from bottom into centre. Mottled brown.
Rectangular walrus tusk ivory slab with hole in one end. Flat surface angles slightly from hole to end. Other surface is convex. End opposite hole and sides are rounded. Central core of mottled dentine shows on convex surface. Coated in varnish or resin.
Mouthpiece of bow drill. Walrus tusk or tooth drill mouthpiece, oval in cross-section, constricted near centre, wider at one end with a groove 0.4 cm from this end. Hole longitudinally drilled through centre of oval.
An awl of cassowary leg bone, tapering to a point, and grooved near the joint end. The joint is dark brown while the point is light yellow. The surface, except for the joint, is extremely smooth, polished through use.
Ivory harpoon head with beveled edges and curving sides; diagonal slope across bottom; round open socket hole at bottom; line hole through harpoon head above socket. Blade slit at rounded tip with channel on one side of slit to near centre. Triangular incised line and deeply drilled dot design on all but channeled and bottom surfaces.
Bone spoon; bowl is shallow and narrow; handle end tapers to rounded end. Some dark brown cortex is left on convex spoon back and patches on handle and concave spoon bowl.
Curved, dense, brown, bow-shaped bone with hole at one end, broken at the other.
Wedge shaped harpoon head with round socket extending in from centre bottom. Line hole at centre is at a right angle to socket hole, meeting it at the top. Channel runs down on either side of line hole. Blade slot cuts across top of rounded head. Bottom has rounded tang on one side. Both sides are slightly convex, longitudinal cracks along tang side.
Part of a seal drag handle in the shape of a seal's head. The back slopes to a flat end. Longitudinal hole drilled into head from back. Two holes through bottom to longitudinal hole (front hole is at an angle). Down curved incised line indicates mouth, notches at nostrils on flattened snout. Round inlaid eyes with central depressions. Mottled brown. Small hole on either side behind and slightly below eyes.
An arrow shaft, 82 cm. long, made of pitpit (sword grass). The shaft is light brown with black coating. The foreshaft of black palm wood, 41 cm. long, has an incised design. At the point of insertion into the shaft, there is a sleeve of woven split rattan 1 cm. wide. The foreshaft is inserted into a hollow lanceolate bone point 10 cm. long with a sleeve of woven split rattan 1.5 cm. wide at the point of insertion. The point is rubbed with grey clay. The foreshaft is rubbed with grey clay and red ochre.
