Beaded Panel3203/3

Beaded panel, likely sewn to a shirt at one time. Triangular textile is red velvet with black edging. Glass beading is symmetrical, showing a large, single stem of stylized flowers and foliage in green, pink, blue and other colours. Light, inked pattern lines can be seen around some of the beading. Backing panel is unbleached cotton canvas.

Ceremonial Club3194/31 a-b

Ceremonial war club. Club stick (part a) is long and relatively straight, covered in brown canvas and red felt. Ends are wrapped with narrow strips of fur. Top has an open loop created out of fur. Along the length of the stick are three tassels of horse hair, and several areas of blue glass beading, with the occasional inclusion of some brass beads. Part b is a round, hide wrapped stone. One half of the hide covering is painted dark blue. A braided thong of leather is sewn to the seams of the hide, and attaches two large cream and brown feathers and smaller red feathers with pink beading at the quills, and black glass beads around the thong, to the stone.

Jacket3178/2

Dark purple silk jacket. Garment is long in the body, with long, wide sleeves, and closes on the right side and horizontally across the front of the shoulder, creating a small neck. Fabric is a dark purple silk with heavy applique on the shoulders, chest and torso where birds and peony flowers are embroidered in white, purple green and black on a blue background. Outlining this are strips of gold, and a ribbon of smaller flowers in bright pink and butterflies in green, interspersed with light green fretwork. Sleeves are similarly outlined along the cuffs, as is the back of the neck. Sides at bottom are edged in blue silk with green fretwork. Buttons along the open edge are brass.

Red silk jacket. Garment is short in the body with wide sleeves and a small upright neck, closing on the right side and horizontally across the front of the shoulder. Fabric is red silk, heavily embroidered front and back with peony flowers, foliage, butterflies and birds, as well as linear decorations in blue, light green, white and pink at back of neck and around the arms. The jacket’s interior is lined with light green fabric, and padded. Sides at bottom and cuffs are edged in blue silk with black and green, and gold ribbons. Buttons are brass with a glass centre.

Metal gong with a flat top and belled sides, made of one solid piece. The gold-coloured metal is polished and shiny on the outside, while the inner surface is darker and rough.

Gong3110/19

A brass gong with a long wooden handle. The gong is bowl-shaped and attached to a wooden stick with a small metal peg. Where the gong and handle meet are two thin discs stacked one on top of the other in a scalloped pattern. They have been hammered flat. Bottom portion of the handle is carved with rings and undulating lines. Top is polished smooth. A long strand of thread is tied to the handle near the base.
