A small red lacquer snuff bottle (part a) in a flattened circular shape. The high relief carving on both sides shows a landscape scene with two scholars. One side has both scholars with their arms folded (one scholar is holding a fan), and both turning away from each other. The other side has one scholar with his arms folded turning away from the other who appears to be entreating (?) to him. There is a stopper (part b) made of green jade stone. The wood stand (part c) has the shape of an oval, and has four legs.
Two pins (parts a-b) that each have a short thin flat rod with a point at the bottom end and a flower with leaves finial at the top. The flower is made of a central pearl (one missing) that has petals made of inlaid light blue kingfisher feathers outlined with metal. The leaves are made of light green jade. There are eye-hooks in between the leaves. Part of a set of bridal ornaments.
Necklace made of thick silver wire and thin twined silver wire that have been bent into a large coil. The coil is curved overall and tapers slightly where it joins to two thick segments of silver with recurved ends that have rounded finials with incised lines. At each join there is a flower-shaped decorative element with a red glass centre and two-tiered triangular shapes above and below it, each with low relief bosses overall.
Red robe with long sleeves, side slits and side opening with a tie. On the lower front is a butterfly motif in orange, red, green, and black on a red ground. The collar and waist border has chrysanthemum and prunus motifs in blue and turquoise on a pink ground. The waist border has a fine blue and white fringe along the lower edge. The sleeve and bottom hem border has a diamond pattern in blue and white. There are tin reflectors on the back and front. The waistband is stiffened with paper and adhesive. The inside lining is natural-coloured cotton.
Woman's palace robe (gongzhuang), ecru coloured with wide sleeves, centre front opening, short, standing collar with brass buttons and panel skirt. Butterfly, peony, chrysanthemum, lotus, narcissus and hsi motifs on the front and back in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple on an ecru background. Sleeve bands with a flower and symbol motif in red, orange, yellow, green and blue on ecru ground. There are mirrors on the sleeves. The inside lining is white linen on the upper portion and blue linen on the skirt panels.
Pair of hand-made brass rings: a) is a piece of red glass set into a brass ring with two slits in the band either side of the glass setting; b) is a ring made of clear, red and green beads strung onto brass wire with a brass wire band.
A metalwork piece that has a long thin flat rod has a point at the bottom and three cranes in flight plus flower and leaf motifs at the top. The head, neck, and body of each crane are made of white beads, or pearls? While both the wings and the tail are made of inlaid light blue kingfisher feathers outlined with metal, the wings also have a row of what look to be white pearls in between. The eyes are outlined with very light blue beads that have a black bead for a pupil. There is an orange bead at the top of each head. The metal beaks are holding loose threads. Behind the cranes, there are four trees made of inlaid light blue kingfisher feather outlined with metal. The cranes and the trees are connected by a common base that is decorated with four pieces of green mineral, from which hang below four sets of flowers made of inlaid light blue kingfisher feather outlined with metal, and pearls? The outer two sets of flowers have loose threads at the bottom ends. Part of a set of Chinese bridal ornaments.
Long multicoloured vest with appliqué roundels. The vest has a centre opening with frog closures. The sides are open, held together by three turquoise bands. The collar border has peony and butterfly motifs in blue and green on a mauve ground. On the front and back is a diamond pattern in turquoise, blue and ecru. In the centre is a large roundel with a yin-yang symbol in silver and gold. The four surrounding roundels have with different variations of silver bars on a black ground. The border around the edges has a prunus motif in pink, purple and blue on an orange ground edged with pink. There are tin reflectors, green glass eyes and white fur. The inside lining is natural-coloured linen.
An earring made of cut circular glass pieces attached with metal. From the top hook, there is a flower shape made out of one central red cut circular glass (?) piece surrounded by six clear ones. Below this flower, there is a small diamond shape made out of four clear cut circular glass (?) pieces. From this small diamond shape, there is a larger diamond shape made out of one central light green cut circular glass (?) piece surrounded by eight clear ones. Underneath this larger diamond shape, there is a design consisting of a central red cut circular glass (?) piece surrounded by twenty clear ones creating 'arms' with an arch above and two separate dangling pieces at the bottom corners. At the end of each 'arm', there is a hook. Chinese opera accessory most likely from the 1920's.
A finial in the form of a cicada. The body is orange-pink cream-coloured with wings that are made of inlaid light blue kingfisher feathers outlined with metal. The legs are made of coiled metal wire with various decorations including a rounded light green stone, four elaborately carved flat dark green stone pieces that have a circular orange stone piece topped with a seed pearl? There is a pearl beaded flower near the head with two pairs of yellow and orange-red circular coiled wires in between. Part of a set of Chinese bridal ornaments.
