Obverse: Leo VI, to left, and Alexander, his brother, to right; they sit on a double throne; each wears a crown with cross and a loros, an embroidered and jewelled scarf; between them, they hold a labarum, a military standard; to left, inscription begins with a cross, and says ‘LEOn’; above and to right, it says ‘SALEΞAnGRoS’. Reverse: there is an inscription of four lines, which begins with a cross, and says ‘LEOn/SALEΞAn/GROSbASIL/ROMEOn’.

The inscription on the reverse in translation says ‘Leo, by the Grace of God, King of the Romans’.
