Storage BasketA4308

Rectangular cedar root basket consisting of simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches); parallel slat foundation; total imbrication. Rawhide handles overcast with cedar root and beaded. Convex lid. The coiled work consists of nine rows of elongated (two slat) stitches; beaded basket; fully imbricated. Two rows of stepped pattern in crabapple and black cherry bark. Along the top are shapes in black and along bottom are the same shapes in red. The lid is convex and flanged, and decorated with partial beading. Alternating crabapple/black cherry creating six wide rows going width of lid. Hinges are rawhide. Rawhide tips on lid connect with loops on basket. Colour: tan.

Urn shaped coiled basket (bifurcated stitches) with looped border and short foot. Fully imbricated in rows of stepped diagonal bands, alternating in red and dark cherry bark and cat-tail grass (?). Foot has two rows of alternating bands of red and dark cherry bark with cat-tail grass (?) between. Watch-spring base construction. Basket similar to D1.372.

Oval coil basket (bifurcated stitches) with foot, and lid with flange. Elongated watch-spring base and lid construction. Imbricated floral patterns in two rows, part of top row finishing on lid. Flowers in dark and red cherry bark with cat-tail grass(?) on leaves. Foot has pyramid-like shapes with cat-tail grass(?) in centre. Lid has row of cross shapes in dark cherry bark with red cherry bark centres. Lid may have had a handle at one time(?). Short sides of basket had handles at one time.

Large flared rectangular coil basket (bifurcated stitches). Parallel base construction. Imbricated zig-zag pattern in two rows on three sides, in red cherry bark and with cat-tail grass in middle. Top row of triangles in same colours. Outside of rim is beaded in cat-tail grass (?) with intervals of two stitch red cherry bark imbrication. Remains of skin handles, two on each long side, also fibre strings, one on short side, one on long.

Tan, black, and red basketry cradle of interlocking coiled work (bifurcated stitches). Parallel slat base construction with single cross-stitch support and no extra rim. Decorated with beading and imbrication (partial). Top slat has four beaded rows (2:1), staggered, in cat-tail grass. Body has three similar rows at the head with a "butterfly pattern". Vertical zig-zag pattern over the rest of the basket.

Small basketry cradle with interlocking coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with parallel slat base construction and overcast rim. Each side towards the head end, has four red stripes (2 stitches wide, 3 rows high). Each side has seven black stripes (1 row wide, 4 high) at the foot end. The top end has six black stripes and the tail end has two red modified stripes. There are also thin skin straps attached near the four corners of the cradle as handles.

Imbricated design of zig-zag, outlined in red cherry bark with cat-tail grass (?) in middle, with triangles at each peak in checkerboard configuration of same colours. Imbrication on lid has four pointed design outlined in red cherry bark with cat-tail grass (?) in middle. Lid had a handle in the center at one time.
