Basketry LidD1.515

Basket lid of simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with watch-spring construction and a knob handle. Lid also has a flange. Decorated with partial imbrication, design consists of two rows of chevrons alternating in red and black cherry bark. The first row is around the rim, and the second is oriented counter-clockwise in the centre.

Bowl on pedastal coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with watch-spring base construction. Double loop work on rim and foot. Imbricated geometric pattern of four large squares in black cherry bark, grass and red cherry bark, horizontally connected by double black lines. Stem has smaller squares in dark and red cherry bark on top row and partial squares in dark cherry bark, grass and red cherry bark on bottom row.

Basket with wrapped twined work (with direction of weave reversing with each row). Base is plaited with double strands and has four corners that extend up to rounded edges that flare outwards slightly towards the rim. The rim is overcast, and the two handles each consist of two twisted strands of cedar bark.

A brown basket mainly plaited with rows of twisted twined work bordering horizontal strips of twilling. Rim is braided. Central horizontal band bordered by dyed (brown) cedar root twined work, band has cedar bark warp with cedar root and dyed cedar root (brown) twilled pattern. Upper and lower bands are the same technique but cedar root is plain and pink design appears on both interior and exterior of the basket.

Brown wood rattle consisting of two rounded pieces put together, each with a semi-cylindrical handle, creating a full rounded oval rattle nailed together on the handle. Along either sides of each piece, there is a hole to bind the two pieces together with white string and cedar bark fringes. Pieces are also bound together at the top with white string and cedar bark fringe. On one side, there are pencil sketches of ovoid designs.

Light brown wood whistle plainly carved and bound in three places with white string, two near each end and one near the middle. While the wider end is solid, there is a hollow through the smaller end where there is a taper cut semi-oval hole nearby on one side.

Mask representing a frog with large bulbous eyes, a wide mouth with thick lips with painted crescent-shaped nostrils in red and white over the upper lip, and a movable jaw. There is a copper strip inside the mouth and the top and back of the head are adorned with a cedar bark fringe. Colours are red, green, white, and black.
