Basketry TrayA2285

Round basketry tray of simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with watch-spring base construction. Top coiled row separated off into two handles and triple-strand braided rim. Design consists of a five-pointed central star, in red-white-red with a tri-colour diamond figure inside each arm, in the same colours. Series of checkered double-diamonds on exterior.

PaddleA2242

Painted paddle with a wide and flat blade that has rounded edges and a rounded tip. Configurative painted designs in red and black on both sides of the blade. One side represents a whale, the other a raven. The handle is cylindrical near the centre, and flattens out slightly towards the round handle grip.

A pair of arrows (parts a-b). Each arrow has a thick wood shaft with a large bow string notch at the trailing end. The heads are made of lengths of brass rod, flattened to resemble a point and hafted by being forced into a split in the shaft which is bound with green fishing line. The shafts are decorated with a continuous red-brown barber-pole stripe lightly burned into the wood.

Simple rectangular coiled work basket with bifurcated stitches and parallel slat base and lid construction. Sides are decorated with partial imbrication in a continuous zigzag design in red/bullrush/black. The lid has beading in red and black cherry bark around the perimeter. Four columns of beading in black and red, and cross figures imbricated on the sides in red and black cherry bark. Indented flange on body, thong ties, and handles.

Footed basket with a flat, rectangular base, flaring sides, and remnants of handles at either end. Simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with a slat foot and overcast splint rim. Continuous imbricated design of two horizontal bands of diamond figures in cat-tail, red and black cherry bark. Corners are slightly different. Beading in red along foot, and imbrication in red. Colour: tan.

Large, footed, rectangular basket (a) with flaring sides, and a flat, fitted lid (b). Lid is decorated wtih multicoloured imbrication: three large waves-like designs in red/bullrush/black. Sides: two continuous horizontal bands of connected chevron figures executed in several rows of red, bullrush and black. Simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches). Parallel slat base and lid construction; overcast splint rim; indented slat flange; slat foot; imbrication and handles. Colour: tan.
