Large wooden sculpture carved in the form of a bird. Painted yellow (or faded green?) with black, white and red stylized designs. Missing its wings and legs. It has carved eyes and a large protruding beak. On its chest are design forms that depict feathers.

Basket2717/1 a-b

Large rectangular basket (part a) and lid (part b) made with coil work and an overcast splint rim. There is a continuous imbricated design of vertical bands. The sides have three bands; the centre band has a brown chain motif, flanked by bands of green, yellow squares and red diagonal lines. The ends have two bands with a green chain motif. The lid has a repeated brown cross motif with a red centre. The rim has a diagonal red line pattern.

Bentwood ChestNb3.1334 a-b

Bentwood chest with lid (part b). Painted distributive designs on all four sides, split symmetry on long sides. Heavy black formlines with red and black details. Complex designs on front and back; one short side has wide curving black bands with red outlined ovoids, split u's and a round eye shape; cross-hatched details. Other short side has wide curving black bands, a red circle shape to right, red split u's, ovoids and crosshatched details. Two drilled holes at top of each long side. Box lashed at one corner; metal patch nailed with square nails at top. Lid is thick and carved from a single piece of wood; rounded edges.

Bentwood BoxA8539 a-b

Bentwood box with painted designs in black and red; with a lid (part b) with edges that bevel inwards towards the base. The main decoration fills each of two opposite sides with a bilaterally symmetrical design. The other two sides each have a less elaborate abstract design formed by an ovoid with two u-forms centred on each panel, also in black and red. The side joint and bottom are nailed.

Bentwood BoxA8338 a-b

Box is carved on all four sides. Both ends are framed in an incised rectangle, filled with horizontal carved lines, with the exception of three triangles on one side. One long side is only the carved lines. The other long side is plain except for one vertically incised line near one corner. The lid (part b) has an upraised edge on one side.

Figure representing an animal head with emphasized eye sockets, stylized eyes with eyelids, an elongated snout with a ridge along the top, protruding domed nostrils with a hole at the centre of each, lips emphasized by a recessed line, and bared teeth with four fang-like teeth at the front that taper to a point at the bottom of each. The figure is painted black with red nostrils and teeth.

Feast DishA1785

Carved wooden, oval shaped dish (łuk’wa) with centre concavity. Made from a single piece of wood, the bowl represents the upper body of a killer whale. One end has the whale’s head in red and black, carved in shallow relief with its mouth open. On the sides, below the mouth is the blowhole, cutout and outlined in red. Behind the hole are the side fins incised with horizontal lines. At the opposite end is a crouched male figure with his head facing upwards and its arms outstretched holding onto the back of the killer whale. The figure has black hair, a black belt and wrist bands. (Repaired with copper wire).

Bentwood BoxA6321

Bentwood box and lid made of cedar wood. Nailed at front and bottom. Lid has upstanding ridge on one side. Box and lid tied with cedar bark ropes in the traditional position. Front is undecorated except for one deep vertical undercut on the left side. Sides are decorated with varying sizes of plain rectangles, and ones with carved horizontal lines. Back of box has two chevrons, one plain, one with carved horizontal lines, then a solid triangle on bottom, and carved horizontal lines above top plain chevron, all within a rectangular border.

Coiled basket with bifurcated stitches; elongated watch-spring base construction; reinforcement stitch on base; partially imbricated and partially beaded. The design from the bottom to top: nine rows of beading in bullrush; discrete ladder and contiguous small triangular shapes; horizontal continuous hexagonal shapes; checkerboard around rim; all in red on bullrush ground. Colour: tan.

Part (a) Large flared round coiled cedar root basket with indented flange on basket body at narrow mouth, and fitted lid, part (b), with knob. Basket is partially imbricated with repeating diagonal in dark and red cherry bark, with grass in between. Overcast splint rim on lid, wide slat foot. Partially imbricated with curved diagonal bands in red cherry bark, grass, black cherry bark. Beaded row of red cherry bark and row of dark cherry bark towards knob, which also has row of each. Side of lid is beaded intermittently alternating between red and dark cherry bark. Bottom row of red cherry bark beading.
