Small cedar root carrying basket with simple interlocking coiled work (bifurcated stitches), parallel slat base, and an overcast splint rim. Two coiled handles. Decorated with partial beading where every other slat is beaded (2:2 ratio). Beading on the slats alternates in red and black cherry bark.

Cylindrical flared coiled basket (bifurcated stitches) with second cylindrical coiled work at center. Imbricated design on outer basket is one horizontal zig-zag, in dark cherry bark, cat-tail grass (?), and red cherry bark, and reverse of material. Bottom row of beading above foot is in cat-tail grass (?). Inner coiled basket has beaded dark cherry bark rim and four beaded rows in cat-tail grass (?), red cherry bark, cat-tail grass (?), and dark cherry bark. Watch-spring base construction. Foot has four rows of beaded cat-tail grass (?), indicating this basket may have been made by a basket maker from Spuzzum, B.C.

Repeated parallel holes on surface of rim indicates basket may have had a loop border. Light coloured grass used for beaded imbrication around the foot of the basket.

Foot of two coiled rows. Imbricated pattern on shoulder of basket in zig-zag shape in red cherry bark and cat-tail grass (?). Sides have bands of alternating dark cherry bark with cat-tail grass (?) and red cherry bark with cat-tail grass (?). Foot has red cherry bark beading. Lid has flower shaped imbrication of one row each red and dark cherry bark and cat-tail grass (?).

Cedar root basket with splint foundation and coiled elements of cedar rootlet. Imbrication in cat-tail, red and black-dyed cherry bark. Simple interlocking coiled work (with bifurcated stitches) parallel coiled base with watch spring coiling at periphery; overcast rim, partial imbrication. Individual unattached diamond figures (continuous pattern around sides). These are tri-colour in black/white/red and red/white/black alternating and are arranged in five staggered rows such that chevron figures are produced in total rather than simple oblique lines of similarly coloured diamonds. Colour: tan.

Rectangular basket with splint foundation and coiled elements of cedar root. Fully imbricated in grass with red and black cherry bark. Foot is beaded in red cherry bark in three coiled rows. Slat bottom. Has steel handles. Fully imbricated and beaded. Designs in black and red cherry bark that consist of zigzags that stretch to the full height of the basket in black/red/black. Also diamonds in red and black with geometric shapes in between.

Basketry MatA8472

Small, circular, cedar root mat of interlocking coiled work. Consists of eight plain coiled areas (starting with watch-spring construction) connected by two concentric bands of loop work. The centre design has a star-like appearance. There are interspersed black coils along the outer ring; black and red double coils on the middle ring and an all red central ring.

Lunch BasketA8447

Basket with cedar root slat foundation and coiled elements of cedar rootlet. Lid is attached with rawhide thongs. Simple interlocking coiled work with bifurcated stitches with a parallel slat base and lid. Base with graduated parallel reinforcement stitches, and lid with one continuous slat around circumference. Decorated with beading in red and black-dyed cherry bark. Base has flange and is decorated with partial beading. The partial beading consists of vertical groupings of diamond shapes, each consisting of four smaller diamond shapes. There are three groupings, which alternate red/black, on the lid and front and back sides of the basket (one on each edge side).
