Point, Chipped Stone1-976

Unstemmed chalcedony projectile point. Locality: Univ. of Wash. campus.* Triangular, gray, chert point; slightly concave base. LWA 1-16-96 Note on box containing artifacts: "Mr. Daugherty. These arrow heads were found on the university campus in 1908 when they were clearing for the A of P Exposition. Found by Mattie Lavaque [born?] in 1876 at what is now Normandy Park. Mattie L. Smith, 1348 N. Marion St., Olympia, WA." *This information comes from the original accession ledger.

Standing wood female figure (ibeji) on oval base. Figure has a long trunk and arms on short stocky legs. Arms are at the sides. Has protruding stomach, breasts, and buttocks. Large head with facial features in relief of large protruding eyes having incised eyelids and eight incised notches on each cheek with three at the forehead. Tall pointed four-sided headdress with knob at top is patterned with incised lines. Recesses filled with indigo dye. Large pierced ears placed far back on the head. Earring of strung horn beads and one jasper. Arm on the right has brass bracelet with spiral incising. Two strings of dark horn beads at waist. Necklace of elongated blue beads with one red jasper bead. Incising at back of head, spine, and stomach. Carved wood piece with dark brown patina and red camwood in areas.

Large head with facial features in relief of large protruding eyes having incised eyelids. Arranged on each cheek, there are seven incised notches with three at the forehead. Large pierced ears placed far back on head. Earring of strung white shell(?) beads and one jasper disc. Tall pointed four-sided headdress with knob at top is patterned with incised lines, of which the recesses are filled with indigo. Arm on the right has plain silver bracelet. Two strings of dark horn beads at waist. Necklace of blue glass(?). Incising at back of head, spine, and stomach. Carved wood piece with dark brown patina and red camwood paste in areas.
