Chipped Stone Tool5711

Peculiarly shaped chipped forms. Remarks: Number of specimens in upper left corner was recorded by Frank Barnett who checked the material in 1939 while working at the museum as a volunteer.* Previous count shows 102 objects, of which 62 could be located. These are from Goldendale, and consist of: Obsidian objects: 5 obsidian cresents, one single barbed obsidian knife, one obsidian point with teeth on sides, one obsidian side notched point with a split stem, one obsidian side notched (concave based) point and an obsidian drill. Chert objects: 34 single barbed chert chipped stone tools, 8 couble barbed on one side chipped stone (knives?), 1 corner and medial notched chert point, 1 notched twic on each side chert point, two corner notched and split stemmed chert points, one lanceolate chert point, one chippoed stone chert tool, on side-notched chert point, two stemmed chert points. There is one basalt piece, which is a single-barbed chipped stone tool. From Goldendale. (6/95) *Information is from the original accession ledger.

Chipped leaf-shaped spear heads (pointed at both ends) used/found in vicinity of Goldendale. Numbers of specimens in upper left hand corner (of ledger) were entered by Frank Barnett who checked the material in 1939 working as a volunteer. The other ledger number was 26.* One point (5676/50) returned from Grant County Public Utility District, Wanapum Dam Heritage Center on January 25, 1995. These materials were originally sent to Grant County PUD for future exchange (see Borrower's Agreement - 1966), but the exchange papers were never drawn up. Since this material was only loaned, not deaccessioned, the Grant County PUD returned it to the Burke. (L. Phillips, 1/26/95). Previous count on computer was 18 bifaces. Only 13 were counted (1995). There were 10 chert, 2 basalt and one uniditified chipped stone tools. One was dropped and broken (L. Phillips, 5/18/95). These bifaces are whole, ellipsoid and pointed on both ends, unstemmed (6/95). NOTE: One was on loan to Washington State Parks and determined to be lost while on loan. Chipped leaf-shaped points (straight base). Remarks: Numbers of specimens in upper left hand corner -9- of ledger were entered by Frank Barnett who checked the material in 1939 working as a volunteer. Original ledger number was 10.* 1 projectile point stored in drawer 20D10, 5/7/90 RWA. One point (5678/55) returned from Grant County Public Utility District, Wanapum Dam Heritage Center on January 25, 1995. These materials were originally sent to Grant County PUD for future exchange (see Borrower's Agreement - 1966), but the exchange papers were never drawn up. Since this material was only loaned, not deaccessioned, the Grant County PUD returned it to the Burke. (L. Phillips, 1/26/95). Triangular, unstemmed, bifaces. All ten are made of chert. Serrated leaf-shaped arrow heads used/found in vicinity of Goldendale. Remarks 5 traded for acc 3822. 3 traded CMNH. Number of specimens in upper left corner was recorded by Frank Barnett, who checked the material in 1939, working at the museum as a volunteer.* Previous counts indicate 112 tools, of which 18 could be located and examined. There were eight serrated lanceolate chert points, three serrated stemmed chert points, one serrated (broken) chert point, ofur lanceolate chert points, and one contracting base chert point. There was one obsidian point, which was stemmed. (6/95) NOTE: 2 were loaned to Washington State Parks and determined to be lost while on loan. R.Andrews 9/15/1995. NOTE: Thought to be lost. Returned by WSPRC 4/20/2006. This object was numbered 5701/1 at the time of return. L.Beaudoen 5/22/2006 *Information is from the original accession ledger.

Number of specimens in upper left corner was recorded by Frank Barnett, who checked the material in 1939, working at the museum as a volunteer.* NOTE: 4 Points were exhcanged to Grant County PUD, 6/5/1970. See accn file. (9/322/1993, DH) Four points (5703/243, 5703/253, 5703/257, 5703/52) returned from Grant County Public Utility District, Wanapum Dam Heritage Center on January 25, 1995. These materials were originally sent to Grant County PUD for future exchange (see Borrower's Agreement - 1966), but the exchange papers were never drawn up. Since this material was only loaned, not deaccessioned, the Grant County PUD returned it to the Burke. (L. Phillips, 1/26/95). Previous counts show 220 tools, of which 65 were located and examined. Most were chert: 14 unstemmed (triangular) points, 5 Plateau pentagonal knives, 29 concave based points, 7 concave (mule ear knives), 6 lanceolate points, all of chert. There were four petrified wood pieces -- one mule-ear knive and three lanceolate points. (6/95) Three trianglular arrow heads from this collection were returned to the museum from the U.W.
