Bowl2738/38

Round "chicha" bowl is painted in reddish brown, black and cream with a shiny lacquer finish. Walls of small inner bowl expand out at mid-point to a wider dimension. Chevron and linear motifs decorate the outer surface, inner surface has animals and sea-life bordered by bands of zigzag-like lines.

Zoomorphic, orange clay vessel in the shape of an armadillo has painted designs in glossy black, reddish brown and creamy white. The animal stands on four short unpainted legs with three-toed feet and two funnel-like spouts flare up from its back, one behind the other.

Tall orange clay jar on circular pedestal foot has four heads positioned on its shoulder below a long neck. Lower part of jar is painted a dark reddish brown, the upper part and faces are light beige. Black figures stand between the heads and elaborate black facial tattoos decorate the hollow heads with holes at nose and brow.

Small clay dish in the shape of a canoe, pointed at the front and rounded at the stern. A border of repeated triangles is painted in black and red over cream on the interior and in black over pale red on the exterior. The artist signature is painted onto the floor and on the bottom of the dish are four large circles.

Small clay jar (a), painted with reddish brown, black and cream geometric motifs, has a shiny lacquered finish. It is bulbous shaped at the bottom with a flat base and a long neck that narrows slightly to mouth. There is a long stopper-like lid (b).

Small Christian nativity scene in brown clay, painted in cream, dark brown and reddish brown. Structure has cream walls and a brown roof with crimped edges. Three small figures and a cradle are set deep inside a cut-out in a rectangular hut that is decorated with lines and a sheaf of grass on each of the other three sides. Interior has a spotted floor and lines painted on the back wall.

Long narrow orange clay jug stands on three small feet and is fashioned in the shape of a female figure (chuncha or medicine woman), with the spout coming out of her back. She wears a reddish brown dress with cream coloured hood and bib with cream and dark brown decorative elements. Short arms curl around a pot and an axe at shoulder level.

Large squat round pot has flared lip, hint of a neck, wider shoulder and walls that slope down to a rounded bottom. Beneath a highly polished finish, burnishing lines show up dark black against the light yellowish brown clay and there is a large black patch from the firing.
