Ceramic figure of a female storyteller. She is depicted sitting, with her legs stretched out straight in front of her, and holding seven children in her arms. Four children are sitting on her lap, three are clinging to her shoulders and right arm, and one is on the back of her head. All figures are pink-brown. She has a smooth circular face and rosy cheeks. Has triangular eyes, a thin and pointed nose, and round open mouth; eyes, nostrils and brows are done in black, mouth is dark red. Black hair, done in relief, wraps around top, back and sides of head; large bun protrudes from back, with a red hair tie wrapped around it. She is wearing tall boots, a long-sleeved dress, necklace and rings. Boots are white with beige trim, highlighted with dark red; grey lines and turquoise diamond motifs throughout. Necklace consists of turquoise beads with grey fringe extending from the beads; rings are also turquoise. Dress is mostly black with turquoise, red and grey geometric motifs throughout. The chest and sleeves are beige with dark red and turquoise motifs; collar is dark red. The children all have black hair and rosy cheeks; facial features all done in black. Their eyes are triangular, noses are dots, and mouths are a mix of lines and diamonds. They are all wearing beige outfits with an assortment of black and dark red decorations. A majority of them have their hands raised to their faces. One of the children being held by the storyteller, in the front centre, is holding a block with the letter "A" on it. Artist signature painted on bottom of storyteller, with pencil inscriptions around it.
Hand painted figural skull covered in insects - flies and larvae. The skull is painted like a sugar skull (la calavera de azuca) with lacy patterns outlining the eye sockets and jaw line, and large fern-like leaves extending down the cranium. Colourful insects are crawling all over the upper portion of the skull as well as two crawling out from the eye sockets. The insects have clay bodies and metal legs and antennae. The interior is painted yellow-green.
Painted clay dish. The bowl sits on a raised base. Central design is a dark brown-black star, with scalloped edge. At centre, large red four-point star. Between each point, a monkey on all fours in profile, and a stepped geometric design. Red rim. The exterior is dark brown, with three designs of five lines in descending lengths.
Round white pot with a wide circular opening and straight lip. Shoulder curves out sharply before gently tapering into a circular base. Base is concave. Exterior of lip is painted black, edges bordered with white, with white triangular motifs throughout. Edge above base is painted dark orange-red. Four rectangular panels painted along sides of pot, divided by white lines. Panel on front has a black turtle inside an orange circle. White triangles and ovals across shell and on feet of turtle. Diamonds, pointed ovals and geometric motifs throughout circle; done in white and dark orange-red. Sections of rectangle not covered by circle are black with white triangles. Other three panels have birds as the central design; birds are on a white background. From left to right, the birds are: yellow, black, and orange. Yellow bird is standing inside an irregularly shaped, inverted triangle and surrounded by orange and black waves; rest of rectangle is black with abstract plant and dot motifs. Black bird has gold highlights throughout and is standing inside an irregularly shaped, inverted triangle. Rest of panel is black with white floral motifs throughout. The orange bird is inside a diamond, hovering next to a yellow flower. The diamond is framed with black triangles made up of intersecting lines; triangles are bordered by connected black triangles. Two thin triangles are hanging from the top of the diamond, overtop the yellow bird. Pot is unsigned.
Squat vase with cut-out and raised decorations covering outer surface. Circular body has a flat shoulder and round opening, with a straight lip. Around shoulder there is an alternating cut-out pattern of large circles and medium circles framed with smaller circles. There are channels carved around the circles, creating curvilinear motifs across the shoulder. Wavy lines, done in relief, circle the sides; horizontal lines incised in negative space between waves. Vase is brown-red with green glaze throughout. Foot and base are undecorated; artist signature incised on base.
Grey stoneware vase with a square cross-section; opening is circular with a straight lip. Shoulder is flat; edge curves over, forming a raised border along the top of the body. Similar raised edge sculpted around base. Wavy channels carved along sides, forming vertical rectangular panels around vase. Straight horizontal channel carved two-thirds down the sides, forming a plain band around the bottom section. Black speckles throughout glaze; base is undecorated. Maker's mark stamped on base; tags attached to base.
Black inverted vase with a circular body and long cylindrical foot; opening is oval-shaped. The body is flattened, giving it pinched edges. Abstract forest landscape painted in dark brown through centre of circle, on front and back, with a red sun in the top corner. Strokes of golden brown, silver and white paint run throughout landscape. Rest of vase is undecorated. Maker's mark stamped on edge of base.
Glazed bowl with straight thick walls that taper slightly into a small base with a foot; lip is inverted. Bowl is light green with swirls of grey from the midpoint of the walls to the bottom; more visible on interior than exterior. Dark brown speckles throughout. Base is unglazed; unsigned.
Large partially glazed stoneware mug with a cylindrical body and wide handle. Lip flares out at the top and bottom edge, middle is concave. Walls of mug are straight before slanting at bottom, to a flat base. Towards right side of mug, there is a raised swirl-like design, consisting of circles, comma-like shapes and semi-circles; coloured in black. Area surrounding design is unglazed but coloured blue-purple. Rest of body is glazed olive green and blue-purple; olive green at top before transitioning to blue-purple. Handle is glazed; lip is unglazed. Interior of opening is olive green, walls are blue-purple. Maker's mark carved on base, underneath handle; additional markings in centre.
