There is a seal at bottom on the face with two columns of characters and two incuse characters inside. There are two or four incuse characters at the bottom on the reverse.

Coin, round, with a four-sided hole at the centre, a rim around the outer edge and a centre hole. The obverse has four characters, and the reverse has four characters. Xianfeng zhongbao (top-bottom-right-left) in more relaxed style Chinese characters on obverse; boo fu left-right (mintmark) in Manchu, er shi top, bottom (two-ten=value 20) in Chinese on reverse. Obverse with extra impression just below characters (mother coin impressed twice); file marks; rim pits; centre hole not filed.

On one side, there are four seal script characters on the round portion, and two seal script characters on the blade. On the reverse, there are four seal script characters on the round portion, and three seal script characters on the blade.
