Corpus Christi Band2738/67

Tungurahua-style Corpus Christi band made of an embroidered yellow silk panel sewn onto a burlap backing and then lined with orange cotton cloth that wraps around to form a framing edge. Embroidered motifs are in red, blue, brown, orange, maroon, pink, black, beige and green wool and include flowers, birds, deer, llamas, men hunting, musicians playing the harp, trumpet and drums, and a couple dancing. Small translucent and silver discs of plastic have been sewn into the middle of the design and a border of wide strips of gold foil paper is attached to the sides, with long yellow stitches on three sides and machine stitching on the fourth.

Corpus Christi Band2738/57

Hanging band from the shoulder pole of a Cotopaxi-style Corpus Christi costume. Made of two long embroidered orange silk panels sewn together back-to-back, with a turquoise cloth edging on the two long sides, and attached with long stitches to a lining made of several pieces of purple and unbleached cotton cloth. Embroidered motifs differ on each side; red, pink, blue, brown, white, orange and green flowers, a figure, and a bird on the side with yellow slk top band and pink, black, white, orange and blue flowers, three figures and a monkey on the other. At the bottom end on one side is a band of silver paper outlined with pink wool from which hang strands of green wool.

Headdress2736/6

Headdress consisting of flat, horn-shaped curved wood head piece with long strands of dried grass hanging down in two thick bunches from grass pompoms. The plank wood headpiece, with leather and cloth head straps attached, is painted white with red dots on both sides and, on the front, has two leaping sharks facing each other and the dates 2000 and 2005.

Leggings2710/2 a-b

Pair of hand sewn fabric leggings with ties. Dark blue cloth has green satin backing and is embroidered in red, yellow and green. At the back of each legging, at the bottom of the slit, are two long ties of folded blue cloth and another long tie has been sewn at its mid-point onto the front near top centre.

Necklace2748/1

Necklace of ten individual argillite plaques, varied slightly in size and shape, showing animal crest designs (grizzly, eagle, hawk, thunderbird, killer whale). Thin brown leather strip onto which they are strung is bound together at ends with purple thread. Each plaque has a description, place, date and artist signature incised into the back, e.g., "Haida Eagle Crest 69 Skidegate McGuire."

Lenten Mask2743/17

Carved devil mask with horns. Large face mask with cut-out openings is painted completely red over the front, with black paint on prominent brows, under eyes, as a mustache and around bottom lip. Red horns with black tips project at different angles (one straight out to the side and one angled upward and out), and are inserted and glued in above the brows. Inside is unpainted and has a piece of cotton string on a metal eye hook.
