Decorative Textile1440/2

V-shaped, multicoloured, embroidered, decorative band. The 2 “arms” of the band are decorated with a repeated, square, embroidered motif, perhaps representing a natural object, such as an animal, bird or plant. All motifs are identical to each other in design, but differ in colouration. At the inside edge of the V is a strip (13 mm) of multicoloured, slanted Greek key motifs which has been embroidered onto an open-weave textile, then appliquéd onto the piece; the outer edge is finished with a narrow strip of black cotton textile. The lower edge of the V is finished with green commercially-made fringe (14 cm). The piece is underlined with pastel striped cotton textile.

Embroidered Textile1440/1

Red cotton textile, embroidered with red, dark brown and yellow floral designs, mirrors and border motifs. The embroidery designs on all three bands are composed of regularly-spaced, round, red floral motifs, each surrounded by a circle of mirrorwork. Each panel is bordered by narrow brown and yellow strips. The embroidery is so dense that it obscures the background textile.
