Red skirt with pleats and embroidery. Across the top is a wide cotton waistband with one green loop. On the edges of the skirt and pleats are solid black borders, some with an added border of purple, blue and white zigzags. On the front and back are polychrome panels of butterfly and peony motifs in pink, red, yellow, blue, green and black. The inside is lined in green damask woven with a floral pattern.
Multicoloured damask skirt with pleats and embroidery. Across the top is a wide cotton waistband with three rows of frog closures. The various damask panels are woven with bat and flower motifs and eight Buddhist objects of good fortune. On the edges of the skirt are black borders. On the front and back are panels with elaborate borders and butterfly, bat and fish motifs surrounding rectangular pictures of Chinese figures in red, gold, yellow, black, purple, green and blue. Small embroidered butterflies with beaded eyes and black bats are attached between the panels. The inside is unlined.
Black hanten (袢纏, also written as 半天, 袢天, 半纏) with blue pattern. The pattern consists of tiny blue lines and dots in horizontal rows. There is a wide patterned band around the neck and down the centre opening. The sleeves are slightly tapered with an opening under the arm. On the inside lower back, there is a large blue square sewn down on three sides. The rest of the inside is unlined.
Black hikeshi banten (火消し半纏) or firefighter’s coat or jacket, a type of hanten with red and white designs. There is a wide black band around the neck and down the centre opening. On the centre opening band are white Japanese characters. Across the upper front and back of the sleeves is a red band. Across the lower front and back are two white bands. In the centre back is a character within a circle in white. The upper inside is lined with blue fabric and the rest is unlined.
Shirushi banten (印半纏), a type of hanten also known as happi (法被, 半被) or coat with a black pattern. The pattern consists of dark geometric designs and large lozenge shapes. There is a wide black band around the neck and partway down the centre opening. On the centre opening band are white Japanese characters. The upper back has 'K.T' inside a lozenge shape in red. The upper inside is lined with blue fabric and the rest is unlined.
Black dress with multicoloured brocade. The neckline is squared with a deep 'v' in the centre, flanked by two white buttons. Around the neck are rectangular panels of diamond motifs in brown, yellow and white. The front of the dress and end of the sleeves have diamond motifs in pink, yellow, green, blue and white. The back of the dress is black with a brown linear trim along the bottom hem.
Woman’s dress with multicoloured embroidered bodice front, very long wide sleeves, and very full, closely gathered, bright pink, embroidered skirt. The bodice front is embellished with a densely embroidered panel of floral forms and tree of life motifs in (predominantly) orange and dark red in chain stitch on maroon ground; appliquéd over the embroidery are four large, thick felt discs embellished with silver thread embroidery on red and multicoloured ground; two discs are located at the centre front and two are over the breasts. The bodice back is made from deep pink and white striped textile, pieced with solid colour cotton textiles, and is trimmed with small, simple discs made of blue felt. The front neck opening is trimmed with silver braid; there is a button and loop made of twisted fibre at the centre back neckline. The skirt front is densely gathered onto the bodice and is constructed from bright pink silk textile which is embroidered over-all with brightly coloured motifs, arranged in horizontal rows. The back of the skirt is pieced from panels of black, pink and white printed cotton textile and an embroidered pink silk textile that is almost identical to that used on the skirt front. The sleeves are also made from pink embroidered textile (but the right sleeve is pieced with a panel of plain pink), and the cuffs are made from wide bands of silver ribbon. Each cuff is trimmed with a felt disc which is embellished with silver thread embroidery.
Woman’s burqa, a long, flowing, overall body covering. The garment envelops the entire body, head to feet, and consists of a pillbox headpiece, a mesh facepiece and a full sack-like covering, embellished with embroidery and fine pleating. Extends to the hips in front and to the feet in the back. The mesh facepiece is worked in counted-thread openwork embroidery. An embroidered panel that extends to the hip area in the front is finely stitched with floral and geometric motifs. The back is finely pleated and is a darker green than the front. Two shades of dark green, with dark green embroidery.
Black woven vest with sash. The sash has a black and white diamond pattern and extends from the right shoulder to the lower left. The sash attaches to the right shoulder with metal hooks. There is a double green line around the neck and part way down the centre opening. The inside is unlined.
Grey-green hikeshi banten (火消し半纏) or firefighter's coat or jacket, a type of hanten (半纏) with short sleeves and printed designs. Around the neck and centre opening is a wide navy-blue band. The sleeves are edged with navy blue trim. On the back is a large barefoot figure with flowing brown hair against a background of vines and waves. The waves reach around to the front sleeves and lower panels. The inside is navy blue and unlined.
