Table Runner456/14

A hand woven off-white rectangular table runner with wide bands of multi-coloured embroidery in geometric diamond-shaped designs at each end. The diamond shapes are bordered by yellow, orange, orange-red, and green S-shapes on a black background outlined with red. At opposite ends of each corner, there is a pair of orange or yellow star shapes with yellow or orange centres respectively. The centre of each diamond shape begins with a pair of yellow dots surrounded by a green square and a pair of orange squares on a black background. This is surrounded by red lines, then orange geometric shapes, and then pairs orange-red, and green squares having orange centres separated by yellow and orange cross shapes outlined with black on an off-white background. Plain in the centre. Ends hemmed.

A long wide hand woven textile (table runner ?) with a cotton warp and a wool weft. Main design is consisting of horizontal black bands in various widths and designs including checkered, chain-link-like, and tie-like patterns on an off-white background. Narrow hem at each end with selvages on the sides.

Round, brown basket with a flat bottom and slightly flared sides. Base is made from a circular birch bark panel with a white and brown maple leaf design of stitched porcupine quills in the centre. Two bands of coiled sweet grass with a single band of zigzagging open work between them comprise the sides; coiled sweet grass sides are all stitched with black thread.

Three-dimensional female puppet representing the daughter of a farmer family. Head (part b) fits into body clothed in shirt and skirt (part a). The body has jointed arms and legs, and plant fibre that has been dyed blue-green represents the hair. The figure is also wearing one earring on her right ear, and her feet are reversed. Skirt is a yellow, pink and green floral print on a geometric square and grid patterned blue background. Shirt is purple with white dots grouped in circles.

Three-dimensional female puppet: large head (part b) fits into body with jacket and skirt (part a), and a control rod (part c) with a long shaft passes through the body and fits into the neck of the figure's head. The body has jointed arms, each with a long controlling rod attached. The figure has a white face with slit-shaped eyes positioned forward. Small, straight nose. Red dot at centre of forehead, red lips. Head bending forward. Metal cylinder at base of neck. Headdress consists of green and gold painted jamang, sumping and lungsen. Clothing consists of close-fitting jacket of black cloth on torso and green corduroy sleeves, diagonal beaded band of black and floral patterned material on chest with multicoloured glass beads, red and multicoloured floral waist band, and brown and black batik patterned skirt. Hands held flat with all fingers held together and gold paint residue. Hand at figure's left is straight, hand at figure's right curves outward slightly.

Tunic853/2

Women's blue wool tunic. The tunic has a deep v-neck with a hook and eye closure. It hangs straight from the shoulders in front, the back is slightly fitted above waist and has two layers of ruffles below the waist by means of triangular gores. There are bands of red with embroidery and rickrack in yellow, green and blue around the neck, shoulders, upper back, cuffs and hem. The lower ruffled hem has solid bands of red, green and blue. The inside is unlined.

Woman's red wool hat. Hat is trimmed with wide bands composed of many rows of multi-coloured embroidered ribbon, rickrack, and braid. Puffy, high crown is gathered onto the contoured headband which ends in long ear flaps secured under the chin with red ribbon ties. Partially lined with multi-coloured striped cotton canvas. Front edge eased to fit closely around the face.
