Tangled bundle of fibres; most process, one piece is raw. There are three different twine, one light brown, one dark brown and one green. The light brown is wrapped with itself the dark brown is wrapped around a bundle of green.
Pair of elliptically shaped brown wooden snowshoes; both ends are pointed, with the front curving sharply upwards. Three wooden crossbars separate the rawhide mesh-like latticework into three main sections, with the latticework in the central section being of a thicker construction. Two straps made from long strips of cotton are tied to the rawhide in the central section. Small tufts of multicoloured fibres ring the outside of the frame.
Opera headdress (part a) constructed of paper covered in pink fabric with domed metal elements along the forehead and peacock feathers to the sides. Ornamented with a series of multicoloured pompoms in varying sizes interspersed with protruding wires covered in pink and blue coil and finished with beads at the tip of each. Sequins and design elements constructed of thinner fabric-covered paper ornament the headdress as well. A set of three tassels hanging from one such design element decorates each side, and one is detached (part b).
A tiara cap with a black cloth train outlined with light brown-white and silver colours. The crown has fibre-formed butterfly motifs attached to the front. White beads are attached around the bottom edge of the tiara front with three sets of large beads in circle designs. Has two straps.
Metal hat with fabric squares and multicoloured pompoms. The gold metal frame has a round centre and scalloped outer edge. Within the frame are bat motifs, circular mirrors and fabric squares in purple, black, red, green and mauve. Attached to some of the scalloped points are pompoms; three blue/white, two orange and two turquoise.
Rectangular, ceremonial skirt, or apron. The main body of the piece is made of black cotton textile which is bordered at the top with a narrow multicoloured horizontal stripe. The lower third of the garment consists of a finely-woven, horizontally striped, multicoloured textile, with many woven geometric motifs. A horizontal row of closely-spaced cowrie shells is affixed to the apron just above this patterned textile and extends almost all the way across the width of the garment. Many long (38 cm) strands of dark red glass and metallic cylindrical beads, interspersed with white seeds, are attached below this row of shells and hang freely to the bottom of the garment. Each strand of beads is finished with a tuft of red wool, resembling a small tassel.
Woman’s skirt, consisting of a long, rectangular, dark red and black length of tie-dyed cotton textile. A large red central panel is bordered at one selvage edge by a narrow (19 cm wide) black band and at the opposite selvage edge by a wider (41 cm wide) black band. Clusters of white, yellow and red geometric patterns formed by tie-dyed dots are widely scattered throughout.
Long rectangular, hanging blue textile with three sets of two white horizontal lines; two sets at the top, one at the bottom. The middle consists of a white triangular shaped design made by rectangles and squares. Twisted fringe at the bottom.
Cream belt with fringe and silver couched designs. On both ends of the belt is a single prunus motif in silver. Knotted onto both ends is a cream, six strand woven fringe. The back is lined with a translucent silk.
Red damask silk jacket with embroidery. The jacket has a short standing collar, long wide sleeves and side opening with frog closures. Around the neck, side opening and bottom hem is a scalloped border with scenes of landscape and human figures on natural coloured ground. Alongside the borders are green floral trim, cream floral trim and blue edging. Around the sleeves is a natural coloured band with butterfly motifs on back. The damask is woven containing a cloud motif and the eight Buddhist symbols of good fortune. The inside is unlined.
