Jacket3080/2

Short jacket with long sleeves. Exterior is black cotton with wide stripes of star motif embroidery on upper arms and wrists, edged by red and cobalt blue cotton stripes. The same stripes edge the open front seams. A rectangular flap hangs down the back, attached at neck. Dense embroidery in black, white and light yellow ‘X’ shapes cover the surface. The interior of the jacket and bottom hem are lined with dark blue denim.

Embroidered cloth. Square fabric is made of dark grey denim-like material, with bright embroidery. Two evenly spaced lines of embroidery, which follow the edges of the piece, creates a double-square design. The lines are composed of a solid red, bordered by different coloured sections of zigzags. Multicoloured flower and foliage motifs between the squares, and similar in opposite interior corners. Top of piece has four loops for hanging.

Embroidered cloth. Square cloth made of denim and edged in red and tan coloured cotton. The denim is embroidered with multi-point star designs in orange, dark red and white, with touches of green. Several tassels in similar colours hang from one corner of the cloth. Each tassel topped with a number of small plastic breads. An adjacent corner holds a similar long thin tassel.

Round red hat with tied knot at back. Brim features horizontal applique ribbon with geometric woven design of diamonds. Front is heavily beaded with four horizontal rows of crisscrossing beads below four semicircles of beads and shells, metal applique in centre. Either side features two coins, beaded at centre, with rows of beads around circumference, and applique ribbon repeated above. Rows of beads run horizontally from one side to the other, over crown. Knot tied at back sideband with triangular piece of fabric extending underneath knot and past brim.

Baby Carrier3080/24

Baby carrier. Garment resembles an apron with a long skirt at front, thick waistband, and long ties that wrap around the waist. Skirt is made of black cotton, edged with thin red and white stripes, and embroidered at waist with inverted triangles decorated in pink, green, yellow and white. Across front are two large embroidered diamonds with several smaller ones around the edges, and two larger situated at bottom corners.

Collar flap from back of women’s jacket. Front has a top panel of dark brown synthetic fibre, under which is sewn a panel decorated in light pink, yellow, blue, green and red in block-step patterning. Around the panels is an edging of faded pink silk. Back of panel is made of cotton fabric, striped white and blue. The edging shows the original bright pink colour. Panel has been removed from a larger garment and has black thread hanging along the open top edge.

Damask silk Dong style baby hat with beak. Brim features spiral applique on either side, extending downwards over ears, connects at front centre seam over beak. Crown is flat covered by embroidered applique piece of floral and geometric designs. Lining is quilted black.

Hat is round and short with a flat top. The hat has a short round visor attached to the front of the brim. The exterior is an olive green colour, and the interior is lined with a dark blue fabric. The brim’s interior is lined with a strip of synthetic brown fabric and there is a large manufacturer’s label on the interior crown.

Textile panel. Triangular-shaped overall with a large square at centre, two small rectangles sewn at its sides, and a long band at bottom. Two short ties attached at top. Panels decorated with cut appliques in black, yellow, pink and blue, sewn to a backing of the same but contrasting colours. Appliques take the style of curling foliage or other organic material. Back of textile lined with a synthetic black fabric, slightly shiny, through which embroidery threads emerge.

Textile panel made from two pieces of tan-coloured fabric sewn together down middle, one slightly longer than the other. Heavy embroidery covers the fabric in red, yellow and green, showing groups of red octagons each containing a tan flower-shape surrounded by layered bands of applique borders and along the edges of the fabric. The backside is unlined and shows the stitching remnants from the embroidery and applique.
