Great Raven Hamsiwe’ mask. The large, carved, wooden mask has a long beak with large red, coil-shaped nostrils, with a red and white split u-form behind it. The mouth is red with two braided cedar handles on each side. The beak is black with large u-forms outlined in white along the edge of the mouth. The bottom part of the beak is hinged with large diamond shaped pieces of metal. The face has white split u-forms behind the eyes along with a white wing-like shape. The bulging eyes are black, outlined in white and red on a white ovoid shaped ground; brow is black. The underside of the beak is black with an ovoid shaped pink face with black brow, moustache and eyes along with red nostrils and mouth. Emerging from the top of the head is an elongated, protruding rounded section painted with white u-forms. The face is decorated with small cedar bundles; large cedar handles on bottom of beak. The inside of the mask is hollow with the exception of a piece of fibre twine that articulates the beak and two leather straps with metal buckles to hold the mask to the wearer. Attached at the top ridge is a dyed cedar rope and a rubber crest of u-shaped pieces painted red. The left side has a thick braid of cedar. The mask is painted black, white and red.
Wooden, carved, khenkho mask with a long beak that curves downward at the tip. The beak is hinged with pieces of metal wire on either side of a lower mouth. The nostrils are raised and have ovoid shaped cutouts. The beak and nostrils are painted green with white and red edging. The eye is outlined in black on a white background; eyebrow is black. The head of the bird is flat. The inside of the mask is hollow.
Xwixwi mask with white face, protruding cylindrical eyes, hooked nose with red nostrils and red recurved tongue. Painted green with a scalloped edge around eyes. Scalloped black border on top rim. Black and green scalloped border around top rim, black eyebrows and moustache with downturned ends. Cord attached at back of mask.
Woven cedar bark with abalone shell pieces attached to sides. Ermine pelts decorate the top. Two pieces of abalone shell carved and incised. Inner ring lined with white cloth.
Red, stuffed, circular knit tube with four matching string fringes attached at equidistant intervals around the outside of ring. Tube is stuffed with tightly packed cloth.
Thick head band of strips of cedar bark bound on diagonal angles with fine twisted cedar bark string. Lower edge of the band bound with fine twine. Four bundles of shredded bark wrapped in a covering of woven cedar bark string tied around the top edge of the band. Additional panel of bark similar in construction to the main band attached on one side. Inside of the band lined with cotton cloth.
Carved wooden, crooked beak mask. The beak has red spilt u-shaped nostrils outlined with black u-forms that are inlayed with rectangular shaped abalone shell. Running from the brow is a central frill that protrudes outward and curves inward to the centre tip of the beak; detailed with black u-forms and inlayed abalone shell. The mouth is red, flat and protruding; bottom part of jaw is hinged with rectangular pieces of rubber. The face is black with white detailing. The eyes are black, inlayed with abalone, outlined in white and red on a white, ovoid shaped ground; brow is black and inlayed with square pieces of abalone. The inside of the mask is hollow with the exception of twisted twine pieces through the lower beak. Attached to the top ridge is a red and white twisted rope along with short, bundles of cedar stripes; longer cedar strips in the middle. The mask is painted black, white and red with Northwest Coast stylized forms.
White cotton dance screen with black design. The design is a raven motif in profile with wings and legs extended. There is a bear-like figure in the torso. The motifs are painted in black with an oil spread into the fabric beyond the black outlines. The design is cut off on both sides. The top and bottom edges are hemmed. There are holes along the top edge for hanging.
Large cedar bark neck ring consisting of a framework made of twisted branches wrapped in beige, twine cloth then covered with red fabric. Covering the fabric are strips of cedar bark that bind the ring together. Keeping the cedar down are ties of string, cedar twine and strips of cloth. There are two sets of four tassels that hang down from the middle and bottom of the ring. One set consists of stripes of cedar bark, the other is twisted rope made of cotton sock-like material and red fabric. The bottom of the ring has a section of stripes of cedar bark that run horizontally.
Large dance screen with black designs on natural coloured ground. There is a Sisiutl design on the bottom, topped with a copper design containing a styalized form (whale?). There are two ravens, one on each side of the copper. There are several stamps in red and blue in the top right corner: ‘Wabasso’, ‘Made in Canada’, ‘Snow Drift Bleach’, ‘Longcloth’, ‘Pride of West’ and ‘Absolute Pure’.
