Model Baby CarrierA4317

Small basketry cradle with interlocking coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with parallel slat base construction and overcast rim. Each side towards the head end, has four red stripes (2 stitches wide, 3 rows high). Each side has seven black stripes (1 row wide, 4 high) at the foot end. The top end has six black stripes and the tail end has two red modified stripes. There are also thin skin straps attached near the four corners of the cradle as handles.

Burden BasketA5026

Rectangular flared coiled basket (bifurcated stitches) with parallel slat base construction. Skin loop and tie on one side, two loops and long tie on other side. Upper half of basket is beaded on three sides with staggered rows of cat-tail grass (?), wtih black cherry bark rows. Lower half of basket has "m" shaped pattern in red and black cherry bark with cat-tail grass on three sides. Fourth side has single rows of cat-tail grass (?) divided by three vertical bands in dark and red cherry bark and cat-tail grass. Rim is imbricated in cat-tail grass (?), with intervals of double stitch red or dark cherry bark.

Dance DrumA8138 a-b

Circular drum (a) made from deer hide stretched over circular wooden frame with seven lengths of cord meeting at back. A hand-hold is created at the back from cloth. The wooden rim is steamed, bent, and nailed. The drum is painted with two eagles and a man wearing Plains-style headdress and clothing. The matching drum stick (b) is carved and has a cloth head secured by off-white string. Some brown cord is also wrapped around the handle.

Coiled basket (with bifurcated stitching) with full imbrication over entire surface of the basket. Design on attached lid is a circle with radiating lines in cherry bark. Pattern on body of basket is four vertical alternating key motif in red or dark cherry bark. Lid strung to basket.

Fishing CreelD1.327

Fishing creel basket with a rounded base that tapers slightly to a flat lid with a curved front edge and a rectangular hole in the centre. The back of the creel is angled. The basket has parallel splint base construction, and the lid closes with buckskin ties. A double zigzag pattern is partially imbricated in red cherry, cat-tail and black cherry bark repeated in two rows producing negatively defined diamonds along the centre. Imbricated bands of red and orange-brown on the underside of the base.

Flat wood board with a larger rounded end and a tapered flatter end. Board is covered with very soft doe(?) skin with beadwork. Beadwork consists of three sets of horizontally connected pink, turquoise, and blue sideways tear-drop-shapes across a vertical stem on a white background. The sides have a curved pattern of pink and white triangles outlined with blue. The edges are rimmed with a red wool border.

Imbricated design of diamond figures in black cherry bark with cat-tail grass (?) and red cherry bark centers, and short sides have outline in red cherry bark with cat-tail grass (?) and dark cherry bark centers. Half diamond figures at top of each side in corresponding colours. Foot has one row of dark cherry bark and cat-tail grass (?) alternating every three stitches. Skin attached to bottom row of foot.
