DressD2.169

Doeskin dress with beading and fringe. The dress has a round neckline, edged with dark blue velveteen. Hanging from four thin ties sewn inside the neck are ostrich feathers. There are polished teeth and beaded panels with a triangle motif across the front and back shoulders. Below the panels are beaded fringes. The front fringe has red, green, yellow, purple and turquoise beads and green teardrop beads. The back fringe has pink, blue, turquoise green beads, beads made from seeds from Africa and rabbit fur. The sleeves and bottom hem have a cut fringe. The inside is unlined.

Simple rectangular coiled work basket with bifurcated stitches and parallel slat base and lid construction. Sides are decorated with partial imbrication in a continuous zigzag design in red/bullrush/black. The lid has beading in red and black cherry bark around the perimeter. Four columns of beading in black and red, and cross figures imbricated on the sides in red and black cherry bark. Indented flange on body, thong ties, and handles.

Bag made from deer hide and cotton with a green and yellow pattern with two pockets, one on the inside and one outside. The outer pocket is embroidered with a floral pattern in pink, purple, yellow, and green. The bag is rounded along the bottom edge and has a short skin strap at the top.

Gather-toe type moccasin with high top. Laced in front with braided purple, orange and green laces. Embroidered with floral design in green, purple, red, and yellow on the vamp and near the tops of both sides. Top edged with fur. Triangular, zigzagging embroidery in blue and red around the heels.

Basket with interlocking coiled work, bifurcated stitches, and parallel slat base and lid construction. Flange at rim to fit lid. The lid is convex, and hinged to the basket with buckskin. Buckskin ties at front. Decorated with imbrication and beading. Partial imbrication in a continuous design. Two horizontal wide bands of a 'flying goose' design (zig-zag with flat bottoms and tops), alternating in white cat-tail grass (?) and red and black-dyed cherry bark. Upper and lower band are connected. The upper row is continued on the sides of the lid, and the sequence of red and black are reversed from lower band. Lid has a series of parallel beaded short bands in black cherry bark and cat-tail grass (?) , alternating with bands of with red cherry bark with cat-tail grass (?). Handles on each side, one with string tied to it, the other with red thread.

Basket with four sides that taper towards the base. Constructed of simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with a parallel slat base (single straight reinforcement stitches) and an overcast rim and buckskin thongs. The imbricated design is a partial step pattern staggered vertically in red with black on the top and bottom, or black with red on top and bottom, in varying lengths. There are four horizontal rows of these elements. The rim is beaded in black.

Hand sewn, white-grey children's moccasins with small, multicoloured beaded panels covering the vamp. Black and green woolen fabric is sewn onto the back of the heels and covered with white and red patterned beading. Long skin straps are sewn to each side of the moccasins.

Large, elongated rectangular coiled basket (bifurcated stitches) with double looped border, coiled handle attached with rawhide, and rope handle. Parallel slat base and body construction reinforced with stitches at edges. Fully imbricated in cat-tail grass (?) with design on long sides of five deep 'v's in black cherry bark, three filled in with red cherry bark; and on short sides, a 'v' shape "cluster of flies" beside an inverted v, all in red cherry bark. Rim has intervals of two black cherry bark stitches.
