Headdress1281/2

A large wooden headdress carved as a wolf head. The lower jaw is attached with metal nails; there is a strip of hide at the top of the head. Painted black with red eyes and upturned nostrils.

Shoes984/8 a-b

Pair of rigid shoes with thick stiff soles of natural brown leather studded with iron hobnails at the heels and toes, and stitches along the edges. Parallel lines are scored along the length of the soles. Shoes have low sides, but are high at the back of the heels and have upturned toes. There is narrow white leather piping along the edges, and the white leather extended down inside the heel. The sides of the shoes are covered with pink silk, over which are applied pieces of light green silk at the toe and heel. Small fragments of dark pink decorative pieces remain at the toes and heels. There are narrow bands of darker green silk at the top and bottom of the sides, with a row of heavy white stitches along the lower band. The shoes are white inside, and the soles are lines with loose cotton batting.

White deer hide bag with multicoloured floral embroidery on the front. Edge of bag, seams, flap, and handle are cut in a zigzagging style and trimmed with pink rickrack. Bag and handle strap are lined with white fabric.

Moccasins1060/75 a-b

Pair of white moccasins with multicoloured floral quillwork on the toe cap and around the heel. Cuff-like piece that wraps around the heel is trimmed with cloth and ties together at the front, over the tongue. Lined with ecru-coloured cloth.

Animal hide rolled and stitched with green thread with small flap of hide folded over at top. Quiver does not completely encase the ten ceremonial arrows it contains. Arrows have notched bamboo ends painted with red and blue bands or dots and the bamboo ends are fitted over blunt narrow wooden shafts and affixed with thread and glue. Some arrows have feathers bound to bamboo with thread.

Rounded basket with a flat, circular bottom, lid and two handles. Interlocking coiled work (bifurcated stitches), parallel slat base and watch-spring lid construction. Lid has an indented slat flange. Wrapped splint handle on body, and thong ties. Decorated with both beading and imbrication. Lid has beading in two concentric rows (grass and red cherry bark) with imbricated pattern, while the body has a continuous 'wave' pattern which has angular appearance, because of width of stitches (one per slat), interspersed with what looks like small animal figures beaded in red. Double beaded row of grass staggered on bottom row.

Coiled basket (with bifurcated stitches) in heart shape with imbricated designs of crosses on rim alternating in black cherry bark/grass or red cherry bark/grass. Body of basket has same alternating pattern of black cherry bark/grass and red cherry bark/grass in checkerboard diamond figures. Back is a triangle checkerboard. Few loops left of single strand looped border.

Goblet shaped coiled basket (bifurcated stitches). Watch-spring construction. Fully imbricated in grass and continuous bands of downward pointing triangles in red and black cherry bark with solid horizontal row on top of each, one in red and one in dark cherry bark. At base of bowl is one row of beaded red cherry bark. Pedastal has triangles pointing up, in red and dark cherry bark. Top two rows of goblet have dark cherry bark alternating with grass every two stitches. Rawhide tie around joint of pedastal and bowl.

Large flared rectangular coil basket (bifurcated stitches). Parallel base construction. Imbricated zig-zag pattern in two rows on three sides, in red cherry bark and with cat-tail grass in middle. Top row of triangles in same colours. Outside of rim is beaded in cat-tail grass (?) with intervals of two stitch red cherry bark imbrication. Remains of skin handles, two on each long side, also fibre strings, one on short side, one on long.
