Hat3097/24

Dark brown knitted cap style hat with earflaps, a short brim, and a long triangular pointed flap at the back. The hat is edged with white yarn stitching, which also creates a panel above the brim, with red edge stitching outlining the brim. The hat is decorated with brightly coloured rounded leaf-shaped embroidery, with a white yarn chain stitch stalk with symmetrical multicoloured leaves on each side and at the front inside of a white chain stitched panel. The white chain stitch outline of the front panel has multicoloured leaves along the outside. There is a red yarn tassel on the top of the hat.

Shawl3097/17

Rectangular brown shawl with wide striped bands on the left and right edges and a colourful patterned panel in the centre. The centre panel has a seam in the centre where the two halves are stitched together with alternating pink, purple, orange, and white thread. The wide bands along the edges are striped with orange, light tan, black, and burgundy. They are also patterned with thinner stripes, dotted stripes, and one pink and white stripe with a zigzag with small circles on either side. The centre panel is made up of two identical flipped bands sewn together. These bands have burgundy, black, and orange stripes. They also have a wide pink, white, and yellow band in the centre with a diamond pattern. There is a circle with a dot at the centre inside the diamonds.

Head Cloth3587/21

Woman's head cloth. Composed of three woven panels, stitched together on the long edge. There are two larger matching panels on the sides, with a smaller panel in the middle. The middle panel has a light beige background with dark pink and black embroidery over top. The side panels have a dark black-brown background with a large orange band down the centre. The black background has a solid orange line, then orange-beige-orange, then solid orange and then beige-orange-beige on the orange band. The side panels are finished with chain stitch embroidery alternating between orange and beige thread.

Sleeveless blouse. Red square-shaped blouse with shoulders composed of two long, rectangular pieces of textiles folded lengthwise, then stitched on their short edges to the body, creating two armholes and a neck hole. Lower half of blouse is embellished with red beads in a cross-hatch pattern, with double beaded lines dividing the space into 8 rows. The sides are both lightly embroidered with designs in dark orange and green, with some beadwork, and three columns of four decorations made of 4 cowrie shells. Collector's tag sewn to interior.

Rectangular black shawl with wide patterned bands along the vertical edges. The black ground has a seam down the centre where the two halves were stitched together with black string. The edging of the right half is red, the other half is not edged. The patterned band on the right side is much thicker than the left. Both bands are made up of dark red stripes separating thinner patterned bands with zigzags, flowers, and bird motifs. The bands on the left are black and purple, those on the right are red and pink.

Doll3654/14

Male doll, in standing position, wearing an RCMP uniform consisting of a coat, tunic, pants, tall boots, mittens, and hat. Eyes, eyebrows, and mouth are embroidered in dark brown on a skin face; nose done in relief, with fur moustache. Coat is dark blue with a wide yellow band around the bottom opening; white fur collar, brown-grey fur trim on cuffs, and RCMP patches on the shoulders. Doll's pants match and have yellow stripes down the sides. Upper sections and vamps of boots are white fabric; soles consist of naturally coloured skin. Openings of boots are decorated with dark blue bands and braided ties, done in dark blue and yellow; leather ties around ankles, to secure boots. Woven tunic underneath jacket is white, with a blue band bordering the bottom edge. Figure is wearing naturally coloured mittens that are attached with blue and yellow braided ties; ties are decorated with fringe and loop around the doll's neck. Orange-grey fur hat matches trim on cuffs of doll's jacket.

Plant fibre wrappings dyed(?) a dark brown. Additional external and internal coils, undecorated, are underneath the wood rim, for reinforcement; held to rim with twisted cords. Body of basket is golden brown, coils are grey-brown.

Shoulder Cloth3634/1

Long, red ceremonial shoulder cloth (rachu) with an embroidered panel all along the centre; twisted red fringe on either end. Panel consists of central yellow medallion with concentric circles done in dark yellow, orange and light pink. Area surrounding outer edges and inner circles filled with horizontal bands and squares with white diamonds; bands and squares done in dark green, light green, yellow, red, light pink, and blue. Medallion has groupings of semi-circular protrusions along the top, bottom, left and right edges, with blue and purple swirls in between the groupings of circles. Patterns mirrored on either side of medallion. From centre out: pink and brown flowers, orange and yellow flowers, pink and dark purple flowers, and yellow birds with orange feet and beaks, red and orange crests, and multi-coloured feathers along wings and tails. In between the floral and bird sections are flowers inside semi-circles that extend from top and bottom edges of panel; different colours along each side of central pattern. All floral motifs have dark green and light green stems and leaves throughout; blue and purple swirls extend from flowers as well. Semi-circles with flowers and the bird sections are bordered with red, yellow, light green, dark green, and orange bands; top and bottom edges of panel trimmed with black. Yellow line embroidered on either end of cloth, which extends into one twisted fringe. Back of cloth is undecorated.

Hanging3639/5 a-d

Weaving (part a) with hanging bar (parts b-d). Weaving has ground of natural white wool; design features a central rectangle consisting of columns of chevrons trimmed with triangles along the top and bottom edges. Red-brown, grey, and checked bands divide the columns. Chevrons are done in rows and alternate directions; done in black, white, and mint green. Top and bottom sides of rectangle are trimmed with white bands with red-brown triangles of varying sizes. Right side of box bordered with thin band of semi-circles and a striped line; left side has wavy lines with solid and dual-coloured diamonds. White, with red-brown, fringe along left, right and bottom edges; hanging pocket sewn on back, along top edge. Hanging bar (part b) consists of cylindrical rod with two animal heads on either end, to prevent weaving from sliding off (parts c-d). Animals are open-mouthed and their facial features are made up of formline design elements.
