Circular light yellow-brown woven basket with a fitted, sloped lid with raised knob. Top and bottom edges of basket are encircled with bands of purple colour with yellow patterning. Wrap Skirt1473/4

Rectangular, ceremonial skirt, or apron. The main body of the piece is made of black cotton textile which is bordered at the top with a narrow multicoloured horizontal stripe. The lower third of the garment consists of a finely-woven, horizontally striped, multicoloured textile, with many woven geometric motifs. A horizontal row of closely-spaced cowrie shells is affixed to the apron just above this patterned textile and extends almost all the way across the width of the garment. Many long (38 cm) strands of dark red glass and metallic cylindrical beads, interspersed with white seeds, are attached below this row of shells and hang freely to the bottom of the garment. Each strand of beads is finished with a tuft of red wool, resembling a small tassel.

Wrap-around Skirt1472/6 a

Woman’s skirt, consisting of a long, rectangular, dark red and black length of tie-dyed cotton textile. A large red central panel is bordered at one selvage edge by a narrow (19 cm wide) black band and at the opposite selvage edge by a wider (41 cm wide) black band. Clusters of white, yellow and red geometric patterns formed by tie-dyed dots are widely scattered throughout.

Wedding Veil1472/2

Woman’s rectangular silk georgette wedding veil. A bright green central field, with over-all yellow dot pattern, has five circular red medallions, one in the centre and one at each corner. These are embellished with yellow and white tie-dyed dots that form circular motifs. There are wide red borders on all sides, embellished with white, yellow and green patterns formed by tie-dyed dots. The surface of the textile is puckered.
