Rice straw 'painting' on black cloth, stiffened with paper(?). Painting depicts scene of a person paddling at the stern of a dhow-type boat. Mountainous shoreline in the background of the painting, along with birds in the sky; palm tree, with small plants around base, with path to water, and dock in the foreground. Back of painting lined with white paper; orange fabric tie threaded through paper, for hanging purposes. Manufacturer's mark stamped in bottom right corner, and pencil inscription written along left edge; both marks on back of painting.
Bilum sealed inside a plastic bag; bag is secured shut with a paper manufacturer's label stapled over the opening. Bilum is square-shaped with a wide strap. Made predominantly of naturally coloured fibres with five decorative bands across length. Bands are (from top to bottom): checkered pink, green "V" shapes, alternating pink and natural squares, alternating green and natural squares, and checkered pink. Blue card is inserted into bag, behind bilum, with image of person wearing a bag and one of the bilum itself; paragraph of text describe materials, and techniques on how it's made.
Large woven bag (bilum). The bag is loosely woven and expandable. Its shape is rectangular with a rounded bottom. The opening is wide. The body of the bag has alternating horizontal bands of a natural light yellow-brown with either dark grey, tan or blue-green. A long wide handle or tumpline of alternating natural, tan and dark grey colours is attached to the bag at the corners of the bag's opening.
Large looped net bag (bilum), loosely woven and expandable. The handle or tumpline is circular with the body woven from the handle. Due to the curve at the top, the bag is narrow at the shoulder, widening toward a rounded rectangular bottom. The opening is wide. The body of the bag has horizontal bands of red alternating with bands of brown or green.
Decorative embroidered mattress cover composed of a large cone-shaped red-brown fabric embroidered with large floral designs in circular patterns in red, grey-beige, orange, dark green, purple, and dark purple-blue. The rounded edge is unfinished. A v-shaped red fabric is attached to both straight edges and is embroidered with repeating square panels with geometric designs. The brown edging is decorated with zigzag decorative ribbon. The bottom edge is lined with long fringe in sections of dark brown, maroon, dark green, red, beige, dark purple-blue with white beads at the ends. The cone-shaped piece is backed by a piece of textile with a red and beige paisley pattern, the v-shaped section is backed with red fabric.
Embroidered square textile. The central design is a large red embroidered X-shape composed of rhombus flowers on a light grey-beige background. Small embroidery framed circular mirrors are included around the designs as well as within the central square. The edge is bordered with repeating rhombus shapes in alternating directions creating a zigzag pattern, with small triangles filling the space. This zigzag band is separated from the central design by a band of yellow threads, bordered by black on each side, that are stitched in alternating in orange and green thread. The edge has a thin band of black. Reverse is backed with red fabric.
Quilted and embroidered square textile. Central design is a square, outlined with smaller squares that have embroidery-framed circular mirrors. The inner square has an overall light blue-green, burgundy and yellow-green on light brown colour scheme with more small circular mirrors embroidered within light blue-green flowers. This central square is framed by a wide border of various sized sections of red fabric embroidered with floral designs in black, green and yellow on one side, and pink, deep purple, green and yellow on the other side. Each section is edged with black threads. Finished with black edging, and a small black loop in one corner. Reverse is backed with maroon fabric over a layer of red fabric.
Small handmade rug with military imagery: Kalashnikov rifles, helicopters, missile launchers, tanks, hand grenades, fighter jets; all woven in black, brown, green, red-brown and grey on an off-white background. At centre, inside the light grey-brown outline of Afghanistan, is woven 'AFGHAN MOJAHID ZINDA BAAD'. To the right, other texts are inserted. The central design is bordered with a frame of green with red-brown. Long off-white fringe extends from short edges.
Embroidered square textile. Central design is nine small embroidered squares with geometric designs, yellow lines, and equal-armed crosses at centre on a dark grey-blue fabric. The squares are separated by embroidery-framed circular mirrors. Three edges of the textile are embroidered with a band of geometric designs in orange, bordered by bright yellow, with red geometric designs spaced by circular mirrors framed by embroidery expanding from the inner yellow line towards centre. There are small slits about halfway down each side. The fourth unfinished edge has four embroidered cross-shapes in red and yellow thread with three embroidery-framed mirrors spaced between them. Reverse is not backed.
Donkey strap. Long thin woven textile with black and white designs with opalescent plastic fibres included. The black and white designs flow through sections of repeating diamonds, stripes, chevron, hourglass, x's and other geometric designs. Edged with thin bands of alternating blue and red rectangles along either side. There is short fringe on both ends.
