Textile915/6

Wall hanging or bed cover, consisting of three panels. A centre panel of multi-coloured warp-face silk and cotton ikat textile is flanked on either side by panels of dark red-purple shot silk taffeta. The designs on the ikat panel are simple, geometric and linear blocks of colour (predominantly pink, yellow, purple and blue), and the textile has a shiny, glazed surface. The piece is hand quilted with red thread and is lined with cotton gauze, which has a woven plaid pattern in pale blue, tan and white and is pieced along some edges with pink and red cotton textile. The edges are bound with bias strips of yellow and purple striped silk (or cotton and silk) textile.

A long rectangular fabric piece that has openings through to both ends. The main design, on one side that is off-white-light yellow-brown, is consisting of an alternating pale blue lobed oval (four of these), and pink circle (three of these) pattern, each of which is bordered by gold-coloured thread with a gold-coloured thread design within (the pale blue lobed ovals have the same design while the pink circles have another one), and separated by a gold-coloured thread floral pattern. Above the central pink circle, there is another pale blue lobed oval with a different gold-coloured thread design within. At either side of this pale blue lobed oval, there is a pair of gold-coloured thread cresent shapes that have an eight-petalled-flower-like shape within. In between this row, and the main pattern of pale blue lobed ovals, and pink circles, there is a row that has an alternating pattern of gold-coloured thread flowers, and another design. The lower portion of the piece is bordered by a gold-coloured thread floral pattern. There are six loops along the top. The other side is dark purple.

A rectangular off-white textile piece with wide bands of embroidery at one end covering about half the length. Multi-coloured geometric designs worked in counted thread technique. The main design is consisting of a central wide band of diamond shapes bordered by red while having an orange dot outlined with a green diamond shape within each inner corner surrounding an orange and yellow radiating centre. Filling in the space at either sides of these diamond shapes bordered by red, there are diamond shapes surrounded by red L-shaped protrusions in various directions while having a pair of orange and a pair of yellow cross shapes in a black diamond shape within each inner corner separated by sections of green surrounding a double black cross shape with a yellow centre on an orange-red background. From the side points of the diamond shapes bordered by red, emanate two lines of yellow, green, orange, and orange-red cross shapes outlined by black. This central wide band has a thinner band at each side consisting of one-quarter of the design of the central wide band and separated from it by three double black cross shapes with a coloured centre. Selvages on both sides. Ends are unfinished.

Detachable collar with bat and lotus motifs in gold, pink, purple, green and yellow on a black ground. There is white fur and two brass frog fasteners. The backside lining is white cotton.

Cantonese Opera PanelN1.683 b

Black leg panels attached across the top by a wide, natural-coloured linen band with two long ties. On the front are peony, prunus, bat, vase and fu dog motifs in silver, blue, green, purple, white and pink on a black ground. Beneath the vase motif are yellow, green, pink and turquoise. There are green glass eyes, tin reflectors and white fur on the panels. The inside lining is white cotton.

Cantonese Opera RobeN1.679 a

Red robe with wide extended sleeves, side slits, side opening and banded neck edge. Dragon, fish and wave designs on the front and back, in gold pink and blue on red ground. Collar, sleeve and border bands with endless knot, rare vase, wheel, hsi and double gourd symbols in gold and pink on medium blue ground. There are mirrors, green glass eyes and tin reflectors on the front and back. Belt carriers are silver chrysanthemums on light green ground stiffened with paper and glue. The inside lining is yellow linen.

Cylindrical, clear glass vase covered by a woven swamp grass sleeve: wrapped twined weaving with plain twined weaving on base. Two double bands of green stripes, three double bands of purple and orange block bands, with two groupings of purple and red flowers. Upper rim of basketry flares outwards from the rim of the vase.

White damask robe with wide sleeves, side slits and side opening. The side opening has frog closures and two long white ties with silver ends. The damask is woven containing floral and sun motifs. The border around the neck, side opening and sides has a silver and purple floral motif on a white ground. The inside lining is white cotton.
