Tapa ClothC1319

The cloth is rectangular with designs covering the entire surface in dark red-brown, brown and black on a natural off-white background. There are ten rectangular panels with a diamond-shaped design in the natural colour and brown. The design differs from panel to panel in which aspects of the design are highlighted with black and dark brown dye. The backside also has the same diamond-shaped design painted in a lighter brown on the natural coloured cloth.

Boots composed of woven grass with a complicated woven pattern on the toe. The soles are woven on a rag base. Bound with red fabric at cuffs and tied together with twined grass at the top front of each.

Saddlebag woven from twined grass with a u-shaped body, segments of twine joined with black cloth to form a band that wraps around the base of the body, and two straps that emerge from the top and loop back behind the body. The straps are interwoven with bands of twined red, blue, purple and black cloth.

The mat is square with rounded corners and geometric patterns. The centre is a natural coloured square surrounded by a square of brown diagonal lines. Next is a square of black squares alternating with the positive and negative images of two triangles, points touching. There is another square of brown diagonal lines. Then there is a large square of brown diamond shapes with the four corners solid brown. Finally the outside edge has a border of black designs resembling 'EIE'. Elaborate geometric designs of black and red on natural ground. Rounded corners. Tight weave.

HelmetN2.1349

Warrior's helmet with gold flower crest design inside a circle, gold arrow-like forms extending down to the sides as well as the front and back. The front of the helmet forms an upwards peak, and the crown is ornamented with a dome of metal. Purple and white silk tassels are attached at the back of the crown via a metal ring. The interior is lacquered red with gold speckles and padded with red cotton inside the crown.

Headrest with a wooden base that has a drawer with a metal pull at the bottom on one end. The bottom of the base curves upwards and all four sides slant inwards to a flat surface at the top supporting a cylindrical pillow with rounded ends that is stuffed with grass and is made from black cloth. The pillow is tied to the top of the box with a dark red woven ribbon. The base is stained and lacquered with the four vertical corners rounded and coated in red lacquer.

Feather trimmed cape. Woven from off-white commercial wool yarn with a twined plant fibre weft. The ends of small brown and green feathers have been caught in each twist of the weft in a wide border around the edges. The central panel has several brown feathers inserted in the same fashion. Black yarn alternates with off-white yarn at the short ends, and there is an inner border of green and yellow yarn.

The woven textile has a light and dark brown geometric motif twisting together in a step pattern. The motif begins along the finished edge of the textile as a border and then moves diagonally in the step pattern. To one side of the diagonal pattern the textile is brown without design. To the other side of the diagonal the textile is red with a brown zigzag and dot design.

The brown and off-white woven textile has four panels featuring a beaver-like creature. Each panel is filled by a beaver-like creature with a tall tail, large teeth, one arm raised and one arm out-stretched. The panel is otherwise decorated with triangles, crosses, dots and many stitches inside boxes. Two panels adjacent are mirror images of one another. In the same way, the lower panels are mirror images of the two upper panels. Above the panels there are two smaller, separated squares with partial designs.

Tapestry fragment. Square of off-white woven textile with a design beginning in the corner, arranged in diagonal rows. The design is a serpent head with three spikes on the body. The pattern is repeated in a row in one colour, with the exact negative image filling the background in another colour. The colours include red, pink, brown, blue and yellow. The end of the textile has a horizontal border of red and white negative image swirls. Attached to the border is a thick, flat woven fringe.
