Baby CarrierNd682

Cradle constructed out of rounded rectangular coiled cedar root basketry. The cradle is formed by an elongated shape with a rounded top end and an angled foot with squared corners. The sides have a bundle foundation with split stitches and are completely imbricated with light yellow-brown grass and red and black cherry bark in a geometric design forming 11 wide v's joined by wide multicoloured bands. The bottom has a slat foundation.

Part (a) Rectangular coiled basket, with bifurcated stitches at sides and coiled slat construction on bottom. Fully imbricated, gometric design of alternating rows of dark or red cherry bark 'x', on background of light yellow-brown grass. Bottom of basket has cherry bark beading around edge. Blue thread is fastened to one side. Part (b) Lid of slat foundation and fits inside basket. Cherry bark beading on lid, with black beading on rim.

Model Baby CarrierNd694

Small basketry baby carrier, or cradle, with coiled construction and slat foundation. Rim is imbricated in black cherry bark and brown grass. Sides are beaded in light yellow-brown grass in two rows of coils around front half of cradle and red cherry bark along sides and front. Cloth loops are fastened inside with thread on both sides.

Flat, slipper shoe with closed toe and heel. The finely woven tubular upper is stitched to the woven thick squared toed sole. The shoe is shaped by a dart at the top, creating a v-shaped ramp. The top of the shoe is trimmed with a woven band of light red and a yellow line. The body is embroidered from heel to toe with three coloured lines, two brown and one green. Left shoe is a and the right is b.

Short, cylindrical basket (a) with lid (b). Rim is twined; cedar bark flange looped with cedar bark warp strands. Sides are grass wrapped twining. Cedar bark and grass base, plain twined with checker work centre. Design has geometric motif around middle of basket in purple-blue, yellow and purple. Seven concentric bands at bottom in purple, yellow, and red-purple. The lid is wrapped twined grass with geometric design of sunburst circle at centre in dark purple, green, orange and purple. Geometric motif between centre design and edge, in blue, purple, yellow, and red-purple. Rim has seven concentric bands of blue, purple, yellow, red-purple, and purple-blue.

Domed hat consisting of three woven strips sewn diagonally selvedge to selvedge with a 9 cm diameter circle of the same cloth at the top centre. The strips are slightly pleated and are folded up on the outside of the base to form a 4 cm wide rim. Each strip has a pattern of stripes; broad black selvedge, white stripe, broad brown stripe and four narrow black stripes separated by three narrow white, then a broad brown, white and broad black before a white selvedge.

Striped short sleeve shirt with side pockets. The pattern is of vertical black, blue and white stripes. The shirt is constructed of strips of woven cloth sewn selvedge to selvedge. The shirt is square shaped with a round neck and short, attached sleeves. Extending down from the neck is a reinforced button area with two buttons. There is a pocket on each side, wrapping from the front to back. There are slits up each side, ending at the pockets. There is a thick black hem on the inside of the sleeves, neck and the bottom of the shirt.
