Shoulder BagNi33

Small flat square bag with long woven shoulder strap with yellow and red horizontal stripes. The bag consists of one flat piece of material folded in half and stitched together along each side with a cross knit loop stitch, similar stitch used to finish top edges. The design is of repeating interlocking diamonds with interior diamonds bordered by v forms entirely cover material using a continuous running stitch; slight variations occur in colour and pattern with the interior diamonds. Red and green pompoms are tied to each bottom corner. Strap, twisted and tied at apex, ends sewn to each corner at open end of bag; design is a series of horizontal lines bordered on both sides by solid line.

Conical hat (no liner) with knob at crown; wrapped twine cedar warp over 3-corner grass horizontal weft; inner weft of swamp grass. Purple-black dyed cedar decoration with three rows of checkerboard at bottom (rows 3-5). On main brim of hat are two horizontal bands with a whaler, holding a harpoon, standing in a canoe with a whale to the right. Above each canoe is a line with three diagonal spurs along top of line and at widest point of knob are three checkerboard rows. Twining varies in element size with wider elements in four rows around centre, at brim, below meander and on knob. Inside is cedar slat head band with evenly spaced, wide, vertical grass supports worked into the basketry at top of band and ending in two rows of twine at bottom.

Shoulder BagNi36

Small square folded bag with woven strap, twisted and tied at apex. Two double pompoms attached to each lower corner by twisted yarn. The edging on three sides is in blue cross knit loop stitch. The central design is on a red ground and is composed of repeating paired pattern of angular eight pointed star with interior design of four lines, pointed in centre and curled at ends, placed end to end around a square with a central cross. Along the centre are two, eight pointed flowers each having four, two leaf stems with diamond flowers, projecting in each cardinal direction; partial flowers and stems repeated at edges; each face has a different border design. Strap has alternating red and white cross and x design with a green border; folded in half along length; ends stitched to upper corners of bag.

Hat composed of braided strips of palm leaf sewn together with red cloth folded over the rim and stitched in place. Two strips of red cloth run over the crown in a cross shape with mutlicoloured yarn ornamenting the top, and four smaller red fabric crosses placed around the brim. A beaded band of orange, green, blue and yellow flowers on yellow with black borders is tied with blue cord around the base of the crown from which extend seven groups of white feathers. The feathers rest on the brim and are joined with lengths of orange cord, the ends, placed behind the beaded band, are knotted and extend beyond the band at the top. Along the underside of the rim are 15 beaded floral square tassels with rectangular extensions. A chin strap of blue woven band with yellow horizontal stripes has twisted and knotted ends with floral beaded square tassels attached.

Square cream cotton cape finished on two sides with hem-like stitch while the other sides have two equal strips of red flannel. Below the flannel is a stitched band of yellow stars on a blue, green and pink ground. That band is followed by a repeating bird pattern in red and blue. In the top centre are two orange stars with a red triangular pattern emanating from its points.

Shorts have a drawstring waist with an orange band around the waist and legs. The back is decorated with starburst and flower shapes with horseshoe shapes on each side. Front is decorated with horseshoe motif and male figure outlined in white braid inside. Around waist are rows of fine yellow braid, sewn by machine.
