Basketry BagEf250 a-b

Part a: double-woven cane basketry. Interior is twill woven of natural-coloured cane fillets. Outer layer is patterned with natural-coloured and magenta-dyed cane fillets. Design is vertical twill-woven zigzag. Natural-coloured twill woven cane strip is banded over top and fastened at intervals by a running stitch of cane. Cane strip handles, one on each end, are covered with cane fillets and lashed down with cane. Fasteners for each are composed of four loops, two pairs, one set of which slips through the other. Part b: Piece of cane, pointed at one end slips through the loops to close the valise. Valise's two bottom corners have been damaged in shipping.

Rectangular green silk shawl with red and yellow geometric designs and green silk fringe at both ends. Warp is silk, weft is cotton and silk. Warp-faced plain weave overall with supplementary weft patterns created by continuous pattern wefts laid in with background wefts. Four alternating red and yellow stripes at each end. Patterns are in alternate blocks of similar dimensions. Yellow block has three rows of linear geometric design, the centre one is narrower than the two outer rows. Red block has two rows of elongated geometric designs.

Rectangular, brocade textile of red fabric with black detailing. Selvage on one side and hemmed on the other in joo-i design; the ends are raw. Three patterned bands run along the hem. The first band consists of a stylized pondweed, lotus and waves. The second band has a key and floral pattern, while the third band is wider than others and has a diaper pattern with flowered diamonds.
