Bag3131/16

Corn husk pouch or bag. Bag is rectangular, with one end folding overtop a pouch and securing with two leather ties. The interior of pouch and flap are woven cotton, while woven corn husk fibre creates the exterior layer. Dyed fibres are worked in, loose ends showing on the underside. Decorations are of triangular shapes and crossed lines, in purple, red, orange and yellow. The flap is edged with leather, and two hide straps are sewn to the backside.

Basket Lid3131/11

Basket lid made of a slightly rounded, rectangular piece of birch bark. The top is densely covered in quills set in geometric patterns of primarily traingles with partial circles and diamonds, dyed in shades of brown with some remnants of green. Thin strips of bark are looped around the edges of the piece, holding in place long quills that create a decorative edging. The underside is undecorated.

Round quill-covered basket with lid. Basket and lid are made of birch bark, with side walls cut and bent to snuggly fit the circular base/top, covered on the exterior with designs made from quills dyed blue and yellow, along with undyed white. The central design on the lid top is a 10-point star in blue with yellow centre and accents. It is surrounded by triangles of white quill inside a yellow circle, and a repeating series of gathered quill groupings around the edge, with yellow and blue stars shapes above and below the star. This is repeated in larger size along the sides of the lid, as well as the lower wall of the basket bottom (part a). Base has an undecorated, inset rim to hold the lid. quill-covered basket with lid. Chilkat Robe3131/1

Chilkat style robe with woven designs and fringe. The design is in three panels, with an ancestor face in the middle and animal motifs above, below and to the sides. The design is yellow, light blue and dark brown on natural ground. A long twisted fringe of mixed wool and cedar bark hangs from the bottom. Two cotton ties are sewn to the top, along with eight (non-original) cotton twill hanging loops.

Pouch3123/51

Small leather container. Object is circular and bulbous at bottom, with base tied to body by unbleached cotton thread. A long closed neck tops the container, held together by the same thread. Dark brown dye colours the leather under the seams, as well a single stripe on the neck. An interior support, unseen, gives stiffness to the pouch. A thin, supple thong of leather serves as a handle and is tied to the base of the pouch in two areas, and runs through flaps on the neck that hold it in place. This strap is broken.

Basket3116/8 a-b

Small round basket with lid. The basket (part a) is made in a fine, tight weave with two horizontal lines of open work on either side of a dark brown flower pattern at midpoint. Around the base is a bright orange stripe edged with dark brown. The rim is a wide strip of cedar attached to the body by woven grass. The lid (part b) is flat, slightly indented at centre, with a round knob. It is also decorated with openwork weaving, orange and brown encircling lines, and an orange and brown geometric pattern around the knob. A blue line circles the lid at midpoint, faded on the exterior but vibrant on the underside.

Textile doll wearing a yellow dress with horizontal red bands and one band of geometric spiral waves. Upper body has a beige band with brown geometric spirals (waves and step patterns). Hands of three fingers are up and made of a reed grass. Covered with light red dyed camelid threads. Rhomboid eyes with red and white circles in interior, light yellow face, two front red tassels as braids with two yellow knots each. Headdress with vertical bands in light blue, brown, white and black, cream coloured cotton and camelid threads. Interior textile at back of head has bird and geometric decorations, lower body interior has brown cloth with zigzag motif. Upper body has textile made of white wool and gauze.

Large woven tray with wide flat base. Decorated with a geometric star with a solid circle surrounded by zig zags in it's centre. Sides have repeating pattern of long zig zags and gridded squares. Outside is darker then inside.

Woven basket. Wide circular opening curves down to a flat circular base. Base decorated with an imbricated many-pointed two-level star capped by a circle. Solid imbricated band broken by a light and dark zigzag pattern rings the upper part of basket. Six patches of alternating light and dark coils spaced around rim.
