Craved ivory snuff bottle fashioned into a woman seated on a lion; head is stopper (part b), with a short spoon attached at opposite end. Chinese character on both sides of the lion. Part c is a wooden stand with four legs.

Snuff BottleN1.251 a-c

Ivory snuff bottle (part a) carved in the form of an official's head; wooden stand (part c) is carved in the form of his shoulders. The head is carved with a moustache, goatee, large hat, and braided hair in the back. A part of the hat is removable, acting as a bottle stopper and a spoon.

Small ivory netsuke figure with black ink(?) decorations. Man has an intricately carved face and black eyes. Black hair along sides of head. He is wearing a vest-like robe, long-sleeved shirt, pants, sandals, and a small pointed cap. Robe is belted at waist and has black spiral designs across it. Undershirt cuffs bordered with plain black line. Figure is cradling a rooster with his left arm, right is raised. Right hand is tilted upwards and holding an oval-shaped object. Two circular openings on man's back that connect inside figure, forming a passage. Border incised around openings. Black characters written on base.
