The trailer consists of brown otter fur lengthened by the addition of a lighter fur that is cloth backed. It is attached to a ring of 28 bear claws circled with blue beads on the outer edge and fur on the neck edge. There is a rosette part way down the trailer, made from reeds and cloth with a feather attached to the center.This necklace was purchased from Sahe (Osage).
Modern feather bonnet made over a felt hat base. It's construction seems to be very poorly made so it was possibly made just for sale.
The object is a bow, a bow case, arrows and a quiver. Bow is inlaid with elk antler and decorated with bands of mallard duck neck skin. There is red dyed horsehair tufts at each end. Duck skin is used because for the Sioux the duck appears in all three levels of the world - sky, water and earth. The buffalo hide bow and quiver case has red and black pigment mixed with glue. Even lines of glue are used to create lines around the black triangles. The bow has an elaborate design on the surface created by inlaid sections of elk horn. On either side of the inlaid area is a red painted band, at the ends of which are mallard scalp feathers that have almost disappeared. The bow is backed with white-painted thread. Attached to each end of the bow are red horsehair ornaments. Also attached is a strip of red stroud cloth fastened around the handgrip. The bow case and quiver are made of buffalo hide and have sparsely painted designs. There are five configured designs: two on each side of the bow case and one on the quiver. The designs are made up of elongated diamond shapes divided in half with a small linking section between each repeated triangular part. All parts of the design are delineated with thin impressed lines. The triangles are filled in alternately with dark brown and red color. The small linking section is brown. The intensity of the colors is pale, perhaps from an application of sizing. From the bottom of the bow case hang hide tabs, with pierced decorations.
This headdress was worn perpendicularly at the back of the head, not vertically on the crown, as is common with Native American headdresses of very similar style worn by the Yokuts of Central California. In general structure it resembles Pomo headdresses. Supplementary files: "Dance headress for a man; brown straight feathers rise out of a ruff of soft feathers. A quill pendant hangs from the front of the ruff. Condition: good."

Culin purchased this rattle from Saucy Calf who explained the symbolism to Francis La Flesche. It would have been used in what is now the Native American Church. The gourd is painted with a zigzag line of red paint that represents the crown of thorns. The handle is worked with beads that represent lightning, divided into two parts by a band in the middle. The lower part of this band represents earth and the upper the sky, illustrating man ascending into heaven. The metal attached to the handle reads, “Behold the heart of Jesus is with me."
This kachina has a helmet-style mask with feather headdress, a snout with teeth, hide ears and a face painted with a snake design. He wears a short fur cape and hide boots, painted blue with red trim. His skirt is also decorated with a snake motif. His body has been painted with red pigment.
This Kachina is one of a group that was commissioned and has not been clearly identified. He wears a helmet-style mask and a raised headband in the front. He has a tubular-shaped nose. The top of the head is decorated with feathers with an additional bunch tied near the neck. The figure is elaborately dressed with complete cotton shirt and skirt, both painted with traditional designs. The tall hide boots are fringed.
This kachina doll has a fur and feather headdress and fur ruff around his neck. A lone feather sticks straight up on top of the headdress. Under the fur collar he wears a black, cotton kerchief. His cotton skirt has a painted design and sash. His boots have been painted on and topped with tarn ties. Ties are also on his wrists. He is one of several that were commissioned.
